PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri says men from the East are good and she is happy that her husband and President Edgar Lungu do not have pot bellies like Geoffrey Mwamba.

Speaking on a live phone-in programme on Radio Icengelo, Mumbi said she does not like men with pot bellies like Mwamba because she would have to kneel down to see their nakedness.

The former High Commissioner to Kenya said opposition leaders like Mwamba and Hakainde Hichilema were living lavishly after selfishly amassing wealth through the sale of parastatals.

“Some of these politicians even sit on the boards of these companies they sold. They sold Lunshya Mine, they were paid, they sold Hotel InterContinental, they were paid, even Lima Bank. They sit on the board of Hotel InterContinental Livingstone. They are the chairmen but look at how much the workers get, it’s nothing to talk about,” Mumbi said.

“Look at the houses they live in. Some of us, the house I live in with my husband and children were bought by my husband, Mr Phiri through hard work, through sweat. Men from the East are good; Mr Phiri respects me so much that he even bought a house where we live in.”

She said she enjoys the fact that her husband is like President Lungu, who does not have a pot belly.

“My dear brother, ine abalume bandi ba Phiri ebo naupwako, tabakwata nalufumo. Nolufumo nshilu fwaya. Elyo balishiba no kwishiba ati ine ulufumo nshilufwaya, balaya na ku gym. Mfwaya nga nabeminina, ndebamona umo bapwililikila. Ulufumo lwanshi? Ndekontama nga pali fimo efyo ndefwaya ukumona? Tefyo naba. Abene ba UPND eba kwata problem. Nangu ba President Edgar Lungu tabakwata ulufumo ulukulu. Efyo nachilachitila compare (My husband, Mr Phiri has no pot belly and he knows I don’t like pot bellies, that he knows and he goes to the gym. I want to see him in his totality. A pot belly for what? Should I be kneeling down when there is something I want to see? That’s not me. It’s the UPND with a problem. Even President Edgar Lungu has no pot belly and that’s why I was comparing,” said Mumbi when responding to a caller, Evans Chewe, who castigated her for talking about Mwamba and his physical appearance.

She further said President Lungu’s slim-fit suits look good on him and Zambians must be proud to have a smart president.

“Even my children, I tell them that slim-fits are in fashion. We would have been embarrassed as a nation if we had a President who does not look good. It’s the Zambians that pay him, he must look good because he carries the image of the country,” Mumbi said.

She said the many problems facing the country were because of privatisation.

Mumbi said the people of Luanshya suffered because of privatisation that was spearheaded by some opposition leaders whom she said were now making noise.
