Kolkata: People all over the world have a huge affinity for the Indian Cinema. Keeping up with the tradition, The Edmonton Movie Club is bringing up another festival to Edmonton, Calgary and Fort McMurray. The India Film Festival of Alberta will be the first of its kind in Canada, said Coun. Amarjeet Sohi, who made the announcement through a Google Hangout on Wednesday and it is over here that Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Nirbaak’ gets selected to be screened at the film fest.

“IFFA will show case 10 movies in seven different Indian languages in Edmonton, Calgary and Fort McMurray,” Sohi said. “The films will be subtitled in English.”The festival will take place in Edmonton from July 17 to July 19 at the Metro Cinema, 8712 109 St.; from July 24 to July 26 at Globe Cinema, 617 8 Avenue SW, in Calgary; and in Fort McMurray on Aug. 22 at the Keyano Theatre, 8115 Franklin Avenue.

“I’m optimistic Albertans will welcome this unique opportunity to learn about Indian culture,” Sohi said. Some movies will be political, others sociological.
