Four pork farms from Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania have been chosen by the Pork Checkoff and National Hog Farmer magazine as the 2012 Pork Industry Environmental Stewards. This award recognizes producers who demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment and their communities. A panel of pork producers and environmental organizations selcts the winners based on applications and farm evaluations – including manure management systems and water and soil conservation practices among other things. Environmental Stewards Selection Subcommittee Chair Lynn Harrison says the award recipients this year are real-world examples of how farmers who produce pork demonstrate the We Care principles every day. Recipients will be recognized in front of their peers this coming March at the 2013 National Pork Industry Forum in Orlando.
