Here's how one Samsung Galaxy S4 phone burned down its owner's home

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 may very well be too hot to handle, as the company's 2013 flagship phone just burned down a man’s house, according to a report on Chinese site Xianguo. While it sounds like a scene from a bad sci-fi thriller, it’s certainly not the first we’ve heard of a Galaxy phone causing serious damage.

Earlier this month we saw reports of a Galaxy S3 explosion, when an 18-year old Swiss woman received third-degree burns on her leg after the device exploded in her pocket. Back in 2012, a Dublin man also claimed that his Galaxy S3 caught fire while resting on his car’s dashboard.

According to the report on the Galaxy S4 explosion, the owner of the phone—a man who goes by Du—claims that it happened while playing a game called “Love Machine.”

He heard a loud popping sound from his Galaxy S4’s battery, and then quickly threw the phone onto a nearby sofa. The sofa immediately caught fire, eventually spreading and resulting in serious damage to Du’s home. Reportedly, no one was injured.

It should be noted that Samsung’s Galaxy phones aren’t alone in their questionable safety. Apple’s iPhone has also recently been a subject of debate after a woman in China was killed by an electric shock from her iPhone 5 while it was charging. Apple said that it was investigating the situation, and instructed iPhone and iPad owners to only use genuine iOS chargers.

While some of these incidents have involved third-party accessories like the knock-off iPhone chargers and unofficial Galaxy S3 batteries, Du claims that all parts of his Galaxy S4—including the device itself, the battery and the charger—were authentic Samsung products.
