Get in the mood for Halloween with our favorite spooky apps
Halloween is now officially ranked as the second most popular holiday here in America, just behind the December holiday season, and with a little over two weeks until the big day, we’re already making plans and starting to get in the spirit of things (did you see what we did there?!).
Today, we’re bringing you a list of the five best smartphone apps that will help you with your spooky celebrations and get your trick-or-treating off to an excellent start.
Carve-a-Pumpkin
(iOS)
Free
If you want to let your kids carve some pumpkins without getting messy or, you know, giving them knives, this app lets them design and carve their own spooky squashes without the hassle. Once you’ve created your pumpkin, you can add a message and send it to friends and family for them to enjoy. Carve your pumpkin free-hand or choose from the eyes, nose and mouth templates to make unique designs.
Halloween!
(iOS)
FREE
This app gives you everything you need to customize your device for Halloween, offering a number of spooky sounding ringtones, chilling message sounds and spine-tingling wallpapers for your device’s background. The app also has a Halloween countdown, hundreds of costume ideas and even a Halloween flashlight!
Halloween Party Planner
(Android)
$1.31
This is the ultimate app for anyone who’s planning to go all-out with their Halloween celebrations as it gives you a number of tools to help with the organization of your party. Find recipes for scary snacks and drinks, search for costume ideas and plan your party to the most minute detail! By counting down to the exact time and date of your soiree you’ll know exactly how much time you have left for planning, too!
Make A Zombie
(iOS)
Free
Ok, so this is more "terrifyingly adorable" than genuinely scary, but we simply cannot stop making our very own zombies with the app! Choose just about every detail of your zombie’s appearance including backgrounds, bodies, clothes, eyes, hairstyles, heads, legs and mouths, and you can then share your creations via social media at the press of a button, print them out using AirPrint or simply save them and come back to look at them another day.
GhostCam: Spirit Photography
(Android)
Free
This is another super fun app that allows you to make your own “authentic” ghost photo by adding translucent apparitions to your snapshot. You can choose from one of the included “ghost” images or even make your own, before modifying your images to spook your friends or colleagues!
