Vital signs change after the dialysis because this method of treatment can affect various bodily systems, including primarily the renal part of the endocrine system, apart from circulatory and metabolic systems.

The vital signs reading before and after the dialysis is used as a diagnostic and analytical parameter. Keeping track of the vital signs and other vital data of the patient helps keep track of the performance of the patient under the dialysis process and points out any serious problems that need to be addressed. This is important so that the dialyzer or the dialysis machine is configured as per the condition of the patient, so that the dialysis process does not put further harmful stress over the patient.

Dialysis is of different types. The strain of the process of dialysis is particularly great in the context of Hemodialysis, a common type of dialysis in which a dialyzer machine is attached to a vein and an artery of a patient, causing the blood to flow out of the veins with the help of a flexible tube called catheter. Since blood is flowing outside and back into the body of the patient in Hemodialysis, this strains the circulation system, therefore affecting the vital signs of the patient such as heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.

Only patients healthy enough to sustain the physical strain and pressure of Hemodialysis are recommended for this method of treatment. Other forms of dialysis include Peritoneal Dialysis, which involves the injection of a sterile solution called dialysate into the abdominal peritoneal cavity, for using the peritoneal membrane to filter the waste out of the blood. Intestinal dialysis involving intake of dietary fibers to increase the bacterial growth in the colon, Hemofiltration, a process similar to Hemodialysis but without a dialysite and Hemodiafiltration which is a mix of both Hemofiltration and Hemodialysis.

Apart from the health of the patient, convenience and personal choice are significant factors for the selection of the necessary method of dialysis.Similar Posts:
