FORT WORTH, Texas - Brad Keselowski is doing everything he can for a chance at another NASCAR championship. No matter how angry he makes other drivers.Jeff Gordon was fighting mad at Texas, leading to a post-race confrontation with Keselowski and a big melee. Gordons shot at a huge playoff victory got wiped out after hard contact during extra laps Sunday.Its his disregard for whats going on out there, said Gordon, the four-time champion who in an earlier live post-race television interview used an expletive in referring to Keselowski. He made an over-aggressive move. Those are moves you find if youve got a slamming, banging race. He cut my left rear tire. That was it for me. Its a real shame.After spinning out, losing a lap in the pits and finishing 29th, Gordon became the second competitor in four races during the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship to confront 2012 champ Keselowski after the checkered flag.Fireworks exploded in the sky, and on pit road, while Gordon teammate Jimmie Johnson celebrated his third consecutive victory in the Texas fall race.Gordon was leading on a restart on Lap 335, one more than the races scheduled length, when he took the outside line. When the No. 24 car drifted up a bit, Keselowski pushed through the gap before the contact.By the time it closed up, I was committed, and I stayed in it. That almost won me the race, said an unapologetic Keselowski, who finished third.Im doing everything I can to win this championship, racing at 100 per cent. Thats something Im not going to be ashamed for.At Charlotte Motor Speedway last month, it was Matt Kenseth who lost his cool and attacked Keselowski.Gordon stopped his car right by Keselowski after the Texas race, and there were of punches thrown. NASCAR officials were in the middle of crew members and others around Keselowskis No. 2 car.It seemed the only contact among drivers was when Kevin Harvick shoved Keselowski into the fracas, and Gordon briefly appeared to grab hold of Keselowskis fire suit.I just turned him around and told him to go fight his own fight, Harvick said.Keselowskis face was puffy, and he took a couple quick drinks of water to wash the blood from his mouth. Gordon was left with a cut on his lip.I couldnt even tell you what happened, said Keselowski, who confirmed he was hit by someone. Just a melee of people.All the punches thrown appeared to come from crew members — including a member of Gordon teammate Kasey Kahnes team who appeared to land several shots on Keselowski from behind.NASCAR will review the brawl and penalties could be issued during the week. Keselowski was fined $50,000 for his behaviour at Charlotte, but Kenseth escaped penalty because he did not throw any punches when he jumped Keselowski from behind.Robin Pemberton, NASCAR senior vice-president of competition and racing development, indicated he had no problem with the hard racing in Texas. He might have a different take on what happened after the race.Everybody gets together, and when youre holding on to each other and grabbing and this, that and the other, its one thing, Pemberton said. When punches are landed, thats a different scenario.Some things that happened at Texas that maybe got overlooked because of the post-race brawl:POINTS MATTER: Because both races in the third round of the Chase have been won by drivers already eliminated from contention, at least three of the drivers in the final four at Homestead will be determined by points.The eight Chase contenders going to Phoenix next week are separated by only 18 points.Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin both have 4,072 points, two more than Ryan Newman. Gordon dropped from first to fourth after the Texas rumble, a point ahead of Kenseth and Carl Edwards. Keselowski and Harvick round out the contenders.4 FOR 70: Johnson became the first driver to win four Cup races at Texas, and got his 70th career victory. Johnson led nine times, keeping the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in front for 191 of the 341 laps.To win 70 Cup races is mind-blowing to me, Johnson said. Very proud to have all my races with one race team with one sponsor.The six-time Cup champion was eliminated from Chase contention in the second, three-race round.Johnson was 1.6 seconds behind teammate Gordon when Clint Bowyer had an accident on the frontstretch on the 331st of 334 scheduled laps.Jeff just got a really good start the restart before and got control of the race, Johnson said.NO TRIFECTA: Kyle Busch finished fourth, but never really threatened in his bid to complete his second career NASCAR tripleheader weekend sweep.Busch was already a lap down and running 22nd when part of his tire came apart on lap 205. He got up into the top 10 after a final series of cautions.We were a bag of everything today. Man, we were so bad, Busch said. We fought all day long. ... The guys got me a good car there at the end in order to battle back and come back for a fourth.Busch started ninth, but had already slipped six spots within the first five laps.Busch also won the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series races at Texas in 2009, but ran out of fuel with 2 1/2 laps left in the Cup race when he was leading. AS GOOD AS ADVERTISEDEven though the Ottawa Senators had moments when they carried the play and created chances, outshooting the New York Rangers 32-31, the Rangers werent seriously threatened, building a 4-0 lead before the Senators scored a couple of goals in the second half of the third period to make the score respectable. Not surprisingly, Henrik Lundqvist was a rock in goal for the Rangers, stopping 30 of 32 shots for the win. If the Senators are going to pull off the upset, theyre going to need G Craig Anderson to at least match Lundqvist because that is the position that stands out as the clearest advantage for the Rangers. Consider, if the Senators had a goaltender with Lundqvists .930 save percentage in place of Anderson (and his .914 SV%), then Ottawa would have allowed 134 goals against on the 1917 shots that Anderson faced, compared to the 165 goals that Anderson actually allowed. So thats a 31-goal difference and the Rangers finished the year with a plus-39 goal differential as Ottawa finished at plus-9, a 30-goal difference. So, yes, the rest of the roster is relatively even, but the Rangers hold the goaltending edge. Senators rookie D Jared Cowen took a minus-3 in his first NHL playoff game. Daniel Alfredsson and Kyle Turris were both minus-3 before factoring into third period goals, so then each ended at minus-2 for Ottawa. Anton Stralman led the Rangers with a plus-3 rating. The first time since Boxing Day that he finished better than plus-1 in a game. Rangers C Brad Richards had six shots on goal, tying his season-high, a total that he reached three times in 2011-2012. HAVLAT THE OT HEROMartin Havlat ended the first double-overtime game of this years playoffs with his second goal of the game, giving San Jose a valuable road win to start the series against St. Louis. Havlat, who missed more than half the season with a hamstring injury, had 28 points in his last 26 playoff games before this postseason, so his immediate postseason production is a welcome upgrade on what the Sharks received from Dany Heatley last year (3 G, 6 A, 18 GP) St. Louis played their typically stifling defence, limiting the Sharks to 31 shots in more than 83 minutes (the Blues allowed a league-low 26.7 shots per game this season). Patrik Berglund notched both goals for the Blues, while D Kevin Shattenkirk led all players with 11 shots on goal. Through two NHL seasons, Shattenkirks previous high for shots in a game was eight and that was the only time that hes had more than five shots on goal in a game, so Game One was a shooting outburst. GOALS AT A PREMIUMBoston dominated the territorial play, outshooting Washington 26-7 through the first two periods, but Capitals G Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots to force the scoreless game to overtime. Unfortunately, for Holtby and the Caps, the Bruins first shot in OT was on the maark, a slapper from checking C Chris Kelly off the far post and in, giving Boston the 1-0 win in Game One.dddddddddddd Kelly was sent in the clear down the left side by linemates Brian Rolston and Benoit Pouliot, a surprisingly effective duo down the stretch that combined to score 29 points in 38 games since the beginning of March. Getting that third-line offence has the chance to be an advantage for the Bruins and it worked in their favour again in the Game One win. After their early dominance, the Bruins lost momentum and, after 26 shots through two, hadnt recorded a shot on goal midway through the third, but Tim Thomas was up to the task when the puck finally made it to Bostons end, turning aside all 17 shots he faced for the shutout. Capitals LW Alexander Ovechkin led all players with seven hits, but played a modest 17:34, registering just one shot on goal. Considering the Capitals couldnt get on the scoreboard, that ice time seems low for their leading scorer, even if he played a career-low 19:48 per game this season after averaging at least 21 minutes per game in each of his first six seasons. HANZAL A FORCE FOR PHOENIXMartin Hanzal scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Coyotes, giving them a 3-2 win in front of the White Out in Glendale. Hanzal established position in front of the Chicago net, overpowering Blackhawks D Nick Leddy, and tipped in a point shot from Adrian Aucoin to end the third overtime game of the night. Hanzal made his presence felt throughout the game, leading the Coyotes with six shots on goal and eight hits. Its no surprise that the Coyotes will need Mike Smith to play well if they are going to take down the Blackhawks and Smith stopped 43 of 45 shots in the series opener. Blackhawks D Brent Seabrook scored the tying goal with 14.2 seconds left. Seabrook has been a terrific playoff performer -- over the last three playoffs, hes tied (with Kris Letang) for eighth among defencemen with 24 total points -- and led the Blackhawks in Game One with seven shots on goal and 31:10 of ice time. In his first game in seven weeks, Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews registered a goal and an assist and was plus-2, playing 21:27 in the first three periods. LW Taylor Pyatt scored the Coyotes first goal. He also scored a pair of goals in the regular season finale so, not unlike Hanzal surprisingly getting on the board, this is sudden production from a player that had managed one goal in 28 games prior to the last game of the regular season. Coyotes RW Radim Vrbata suffered an upper body injury early in the first period on a hit by Blackhawks rookie winger Andrew Shaw. Vrbatas absence could be significant for the Coyotes, as he led the team with 35 goals during the regular season. With Vrbata out, Mikkel Boedker moved up the depth chart to play with Martin Hanzal and Ray Whitney.
