FRESNO (KMJ) — The people of Fresno have turned out to help the hundreds of people still dealing without heat of hot water in a central Fresno apartment complex.

More than 1500 people who live in the Summerset Village Apartments are dealing with almost two weeks of no heat of hot water.

The supply was switched off due to a damaged line, but the owner of the apartments is yet to fix it.

Volunteers are helping out at the ‘FIRM’ center across the road from the apartments, which has now taken on the role of cooking hot meals for the residents.

“This could be anyone of us, you know”, volunteer Anoy Phuangsavath told our news partner KMPH Fox 26 News.

“We were all children of immigrants and when we came here that was the most heartbreaking thing is because we saw in each one of those kids that that could be one of us.”

There are more than 1500 people living in the central Fresno complex dealing with no heat and no hot water.

“Remember, this is not just going to end tomorrow or the next day”, says ‘FIRM’ Director Zack Darrah.

“We’re looking at at least three weeks at this point. The resources needed to continue these efforts are going to be huge. I cannot put a dollar figure on them but it’s going to have a lot of zeroes in it”.

‘FIRM’ is asking for people to drop off electric blankets to help residents stay warm. They can be left at the ‘FIRM’ building across the street from the Summerset Apartments, which is on the corner of Weldon and Fresno Streets.
