IAF women pilots can fly fighters - 2016



• The government gave a green signal for lady pilots to fly fighter planes. The Ministry of Defence announced that trainings for this new service will start from the present batch. The first woman fighter pilot will be in the cockpit in 2017
Indian Army's Myanmar operation- July 2015
• The Indian army in aid with the air force made a spectacular cross-border operation into Myanmar in July. Special operation troops carried out early morning attacks at the Indo-Myanmar border neutralizing many militants. This was in avenge to Insurgents carried out by military convoy in Manipur's Chandel where 18 Indian militants lost life
Women Officers salute President Obama- Aug 2015
• U.S. President Barack Obama was the chief guest in 2015 Republic Day celebration of Delhi. As a deed of respect, a historical march was carried out by 150 odd women army officers along Rajpath. Officers from Army, Navy and Air Force participated in the show.
• The idea of women participating in the parade for the first time came from PM Modi's office. The women troop had also extended their arm of salute to Obama.
Woman officer leads Guard of honour for Obama- Aug 2015



Puja Thakur was the first lady officer from Air Force Headquarters o lead the Inter-Service Guard of Honour for President Obama. Puja is in services since 2000 and presently belongs to the administrative branch of 'Disha'. Later in an interview with PTI, Puja said, "I would say that we are first officers, be it male or female. We are just the same. We are given the same kind of training. We are equals."
June 21 declared as World Yoga Day - 2014
• June 21 was declared as International Yoga Day by United Nations. The idea was proposed by Prime Minister Modi. This is mainly to recognize “holistic approach to health and well-being.” As an honor of celebration massive yoga demonstration happened at the Rajpath and Modi described the event as ‘Yogpath’.
Mangalyaan reached Mars - Sept 2014
• With this success, India makes a history by becoming the first country to enter Mars in its very first attempt.
• ISRO bagged the fourth position in becoming the space agency to reach Mars after US, ESA and Russia.
• It was launched on November 5, 2013 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh with the powerful Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) The mission was approved by the Indian government in August 2012 and was executed in 15 months at a cost of Rs. 450 crore ($74 million).
Western Ghats Designated as World Heritage Site by UNESCO-2012
• The Western Ghats are considered as one of the eight “hottest hotspots” of biological diversity in the world. India applied to the UNESCO to include the Western Ghats in the World Heritage Sites list in 2006, and it was granted this status in 2012 along with 39 other places in India.
India becomes polio free nation – January 2011
• After January 13, 2011 no polio case has been reported in India
India won 101 medals in Common Wealth Games- 2010
• It is also important to take note that we won 101 medals, including 38 gold, and acknowledge the hard work put in by the athletes. For the first time in the history of the Games, India won over 100 medals in total and stood in second position, after Australia.
Right To Education Act approved- 2009
• One of the major achievement of the decade was the approval of the RTE bill by the Cabinet on July 2, 2009. Later on, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha passed the bill on July 20 and August 4, 2009 respectively. It finally received the president’s assent and was notified as a law on August 26, 2009. It was the first time in the history of India that a law was brought into force by a speech by the Prime Minister.

• RTI was passed by Parliament on 15 June, 2005 and came fully into force on 13 October, 2005

India-Pakistan War and Birth of Bangladesh – December 1971
• The armed forces fought Pakistan again in 1965 but it was the 13-day decisive 1971 India-Pakistan war that stands out as a watershed moment in the nation’s history.
• It was on December 16, 1971 that Pakistan Armed Forces signed the instrument of surrender putting an end to hostilities.
• The war created Bangladesh out of what was East Pakistan to put an end to a two front war with Pakistan, forever
Bhakra Dam, Green Revolution & achieving food self-sufficiency – October 1963
• Construction of the Bhakra-Nangal multipurpose dam was started by pouring the first bucket of concrete on November 18, 1955 and completed on October 22, 1963.
• One of the largest all concrete dams in the world laid out on River Sutlej, the Bhakra dam, other than generating electricity, ushered the Green Revolution and helped the nation to achieve food self-sufficiency; a no mean feat for a country as large as India.
First Parliamentary Election – 1952
• The first general election of 1952 was a test of people’s resolve to firmly banish foreign rule through democratic empowerment.
