Mumbai Indians (MI), the Indian Premier League 2015 winners, will commence their defence of the title, on home turf, on April 9, 2016. The opening encounter of the VIVO IPL 2016 will see them play Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), the new entrants in the league, at the historic Wankhede Stadium.
A total of 60 matches (including the 4 playoffs) will be played over a period of 51 days, in the ninth season of the tournament
