Here’s what’s happening this weekend!

Friday

Veterans Day Parade at Downtown Dallas – at an 11am massing of the colors and ceremony in front of City Hall.

Following the ceremony, the parade steps off at Young and Houston Streets, travels North on Houston, East on Main, turns on Ervay and passes in review in front of City Hall.Events include:

• Military displays in front of City Hall beginning at 9:30 a.m.

• Oath of Enlistment

• 11th Hour Ceremonies with laying of a wreath, playing of Taps, Missing Man formation flyover, and Massing of the Colors by area JROTC cadets

• Keynote address by George P. Bush, Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office

Ft. Worth Veterans Day Parade at Sundance Square – 10:30am – starting at LaGrave Field (NE 7th & North Main Streets), down Main, into Sundance Square and beyond. Opening ceremony at 11 a.m. in Sundance Square. Respect and support veterans of yesterday, and today!

Friday – Saturday

2016 Rockwall County Balloon Festival at Smith Family Park – features balloon launches, balloon glows and rides, live music, a kids’ zone with rides and games, a run/walk, food and merchandise vendors. $5 per person. Children under 36 inches tall – FREE!

Flea Style at Automobile Building at Fair Park – (per their website, “Flea Style – previously dubbed The Dallas Flea – was founded in 2009 by Brittany Cobb. The former lifestyle editor fostered a deep love for vintage and unique goods as a writer and as a child combing local markets and antique malls with her mom in Southern California.”

Artist Open Studios – Fall 2016 at Continental Artist Studios – the historic Continental Gin Building in Deep Ellum is the site for their biannual fall Artists Open Studio. Experience some of Dallas’ finest artists and their works. There will be a silent auction with 20% of proceeds donated to North Texas Food Bank.

D-FW Undy Run at Levitt Pavilion for The Performing Arts – their website reveals, “The Undy Run/Walk and Scope It Out 5k are family-friendly run/walk events put on by the Colon Cancer Alliance. These events are equally dedicated to knocking out colon cancer and honoring those impacted by this disease. Join us and let’s end colon cancer together.

The Urban Flea at Resurrected Designs – this vintage and handmade family-friendly market in historic downtown Garland features artists selling a vaariety of vintiage, pretty, found, rescued and repurposed items and handcrafted wares. Local vendors, food trucks and live music will fill Seventh Street between Main and Avenue A, one block off the Garland Square.

Dallas Korean Festival at Super H Mart – at the Carrollton Asian Plaza (H Mart) at 2625 Old Denton Road, Carrollton, Texas 75007 and will highlight Korean culture, including art, food and entertainment (both cultural and kpop performances). Featured artists include G2 and Nobrain! Come out for food, fun and festivities!

98.7K-LUV’s Dallas Fine Spirits Festival – the 5th annual event features sampling some of the world’s best scotch, whiskey, plus creatively prepared culinary delights from local restaurants, casino games (for entertainment purposes) live music, and all at Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison. Tickets just $50, 21+, and more details at the above link. I’ll see you there, 6-7pm!

Cirque Italia at Northeast Mall – their website notes, “Cirque Italia is an Italian entertainment company that brings a performance of European style. It is described as a “vivid, dramatic, and moving experience under a customized traveling tent.” Cirque Italia brings the appreciation of production and circus arts together to create a night to be remembered. Cirque Italia presents “Aquatic Spectacular.” The name reflects a unique attribute under the tent, as the show features a custom designed water stage that travels from city to city. The stage holds 35,000 gallons of water that performers dazzle over while thrilling the audience with every move. With this “unique feature” under the tent, guests will be surprised, for it’s a show of its own! Cirque Italia brings talented artists from across the world under the big top with performances that will really have you wanting more. They bring unique aerial acts, hand balancing, contortionists, and many more surprise performances that are breathtaking. They have created a show that is magical, modern, breathtaking, and most importantly –unforgettable!

Moby-Dick at Winspear Opera House – The Dallas Opera’s 2010 world premiere is back. Composer Jake Heggie, and librettist Gene Scheer based their work on Herman Melville’s epic tale of Captain Ahab’s obsession with the great white whale, Moby-Dick. Tenor Jay Hunter Morris stars in the role of Captain Ahab. Also cast is baritone Morgan Smith (Starbuck), tenor Stephen Costello (Greenhorn), and making his Dallas Opera debut is South African bass-baritone Musa Ngqungwana. Performed in English with English supertitles projected above the stage.

Autumn at The Arboretum at Dallas Arboretum – their website reads, “Experience why Orbitz Travel named Autumn at the Arboretum as the number one place to go in the fall. ICE! 2016 – featuring Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town at Gaylord Texan – their website notes, “Learn how Santa Claus started giving toys to good girls and boys in the retelling of the classic television special, Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town.  Our ice sculptures and ice slides are fun for the whole family and part of a Lone Star Christmas at Gaylord Texan Resort.”
