Position Overview

Two contact programs exist for the purposes of facilitating contact between children and their non-

residential parent. Supervised contact or changeover can be directed by a Court either as a result of a child

protection intervention or following the separation of parents.

Duties

Under regular direction, undertake a range of functions which are clearly defined by regular routines,

methods, standards and procedures. Achieve clearly defined outcomes. May be responsible for a minor

function and/or contribute specific knowledge and/or skills to the work of the organisation. May be

required to assist senior workers with specific projects.

Essential

Commitment to working in a respectful way with children and families who may be experiencing stress

due to child/parent separation;

Knowledge of child development;

Senior first aid certificate;

Effective skills in the management of behaviour in children and adolescents;

Familiarity with the indicators of child abuse and a willingness to work within a legislated child

protection framework;

Interpersonal and communication skills, in particular a flexible and sound approach to problem solving;

Ability to work with minimal supervision and to use initiative in responding to unexpected situations,

Unrestricted drivers licence.

Desired

Sound organisational skills; and

Appropriate on the job training and relevant experience.

Program Responsibilities

Work co-operatively with other team members;

Implement overall contact plans and strategies as approved by the program Manager and in

accordance with Court Orders;

Willingness to identify own strengths and challenges;

Reliability

motivation, inclusiveness / involvement (internal & external), commitment, display

willingness to assist others, share knowledge;

Accurately report and address all quality issues, reporting all requirements completed and report

all WHS, incidents;

Attendance at team meetings participate as a team member, communicate openly;

Develop and maintain occupational skills through participation in individual and

supervision/consultation, attendance at relevant staff meetings and training, and through reading;

Willingness to travel;

Observe protocols to ensure safety of children, adult clients and staff members;

Well-developed computer skills; and

Assist with duties of other Marymead staff and undertake other relevant duties as requested.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain up to date and comprehensive records and statistics, complete data collection forms and

write up and file reports of visits as required;

Understanding the requirements of the program policy and procedures and following;

Help to clean and maintain toys and equipment and a clean, safe and friendly environment for visiting

children and families;

Observe WHS and report all WHS incidents ensure Workplace Gender Equality Act principles are

ob

served and be familiar with Marymeads Industrial Democracy Principles; and

Reasonable duties as directed.

Collaborative working relationships with the team, families, external agencies and the young people in

the program;

Sensitive to wants and needs of colleagues and to developing good interpersonal/professional

relationships, encourages and contributes to the

Client Responsibilities

Provide transport for children to and from Marymead for a contact visit, in a Marymead vehicle, where

required;

Facilitate safe and enjoyable contact for children and their families. This may require using strategies of

modelling, good inter-personal communication, or personal and practical assistance as appropriate;

Demonstrates good judgement, effective decision making;

Demonstrate initiative, innovativeness and agility;

Assist visiting parents to remain focused on their child and engage in appropriate interaction with their

child during the visit. This requires a good understanding of child development and age appropriate

play, communication etc;

Ensure that there are toys, equipment and activities suited to particular children and their families;

Prepare a written observational report of contact visits, as required;

Report any critical incidents to the Program Manager; and

Interact with parents in a respectful, non-judgemental manner at all times.

Staff Responsibilities

Assist with on-the-job training and ongoing guidance to new staff and students.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications

Relevant experience; and

Senior first aid certificate;

(at own expense)

Certificate/Diploma in child care or welfare studies or a related discipline an advantage

Conditions:

Satisfactory Police check and to be maintained;

Child Protection Records Check (CPR)

Working with Vulnerable People check (WWVP

) (at own expense)

and to be maintained;

Meet all requirements necessary to work in Australia;

Probation period is 3 months with extension for a further 3 months if required;

Current unrestricted drivers licence; and

Appointment is subject to on-going funding.
