Description
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems, policies and procedures
Identify, report and control safety and operational issues.
Monitor pest control activities to ensure grain is able to be outturned free of insect infestation, within appropriate domestic and international pesticide residue tolerance.
Implement fumigation schedules which takes into account grain availability targets.
Conduct daily activities of Pest Control Officer and assistants and provide supervision of activities.
Provide support in training programs.
Assist operations staff as required
KEY CHALLENGES:
Compliance with Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems, policies and procedures
Maintain effective communication between Grain Service Managers, Grain Protection Supervisors, Operations Manager, Regional Logistics Planner
Pest control activities are conducted according to company procedures
Fumigation program is implemented and managed to ensure grain availability targets are achieved
Assistants time is efficiently managed
All risk assessments and SWIs for pest control activities are updated and are reflective of the way in which pest control activities are undertaken
Pesticide and fumigants are stored, transported and handled in accordance with relevant company and regulatory standards
All relevant pest control data is recorded in Grain Transact
Accurately monitor and report adherence to the pest control program

KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Essential
Experience in a grain handling related role and /or fumigation licence
Pest Management Certificate
Knowledge of Fumigation operations
Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements within Graincorp
Current level 2 first aid or ability to obtain level 2 first aid
Good written and verbal communications skills
Qualification / Certificate in Confined Space Entr
Desirable
Minimum 5 years experience in the grain storage and handling industry, or pest control industry
Knowledge of dangerous goods and hazardous substances storage, transportation and handling requirements.
Knowledge of chemical use in grain handling and weed control
Computer skills included word processing and spread sheet

1 Occupational Health and Safety
Act as a safety leader to promote a Safety Culture within the organisation
When require lead tool box talks
At all times ensure that you have completed mini WRACs, risk assessments and safety inter-actions .
All required documentation is available for inspection at any time, and is correctly completed.
2 Pest Control Program
Examine and record the hygiene standards and condition of GrainCorp site facilities.
Examine and record the condition of all grain and grain storage areas including bunker tarp condition and sealing condition on a monthly basis.
Inspection of grain stocks for insects and quality deterioration / contaminants on a monthly basis
Collection of insects and residue samples for dispatch and testing.
Fumigate storages as per schedule developed by GPS .including gas monitoring, recording and reporting
Residual treatment of permanent storages.
Training and Monitoring the application of harvest treatments and re-treatments.
Control bird and rodent activity.
Transport pesticides and fumigants to ensure compliance with company standards and state regulations.
Ensure aeration systems are operated effectively.
Monitor canola temperatures.
Apply herbicides using boom spray for control of site weed growth.
Maintain the pest control vehicle in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Policy.
Ensure fixed and mobile pest control equipment is maintained, calibrated and tested prior to use.
Maintain records and monthly stocktakes of pesticides and fumigants.
Completing and distributing records for all pest control activities.
Relevant data to be entered into Grain Transact
Control of termites in all structures
Collect samples for pesticide residue analysis
Complete fumigation schedule to meet company targets for grain availability
Insect checks to be performed on a monthly basis.
Bunker inspections to be performed and recorded on a monthly basis.
Record dispatches of insects and grain samples as required.
Record gas monitoring as per the schedule.
All treatments and re-treatments to be recorded daily when applying.
Record all pesticide and fumigant transfers and submit to GPS on time.
Record oil seeds and Malt Barley temperatures as per the schedule
Collect samples of oils seeds and Malt Barley
3 Training and Licensing
Ensure that they hold an appropriate license.
Hold current medium ridged truck license
Maintain confined space entry certification.
Trained in working at heights
Certificate 2 in pest control and grain protection, or ability to obtain.
Coach staff in correct procedures.
4 Integration with Other Business Units
At times you will be required to assist in other duties such as a grain handler.
Be flexible in performing other duties when directed.
