EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – SENIOR AGILE COACH

THE ROLE

Westpac has immediate opportunities for Agile professionals with strong delivery backgrounds, seasoned facilitation skills, and experienced in helping teams and organisations transition to an Agile environment (both process and technical practices).

The purpose of this role is to support  the Customer Service Hub in further uplifting their Agile Delivery capability. This role is to work closely with the CSH project delivery teams to drive the delivery of high-quality, high-value products within an Westpac Agile and Delivery Framework, enabling Westpac to achieve it’s business benefits and outcomes.

Your responsibility includes assisting and directing the establisment of a CSH – Agile COE, providing direction to enable,  support and adoption of advancing agility, and lean practices.  You will be required to provide hands-on direction, support, training, guidance and coaching to  teams on all aspects of agility to guide teams towards improved ways of working, at times you will also be required to coach scrum teams as well as work on projects as a Scrum Master to ensure successful delivery of Agile projects.

As the Agile Coach and Scrum Master you will provide ongoing coaching for the project teams, stakeholders and vendors with regard to the Agile principles, practices and roles.  At times you will be required to provide direction and feedback to  the CSH domain and/or program / Projects to help shape & uplift  the Agile Delivery & Capability. Your skills in coaching Agile at the team, project and program level in a large organisation is critical to ensure successful delivery of the Customer Service Hub program of work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
You will be responsible for facilitating teams transitioning from a traditional development and project management approach to development through a complete Agile project life cycle, as well as advancing teams with agile lean principles and practices. You will be required to assist and advocate in the establishment of a CSH Agile COE, who is required t o work closely with the CSH project delivery teams within an Westpac Agile and Delivery Framework.    You are the ideal candidate if:

AGILE COACH ACCOUNTABILITIES

* You are  comfortable working actively with the Product Team Leaders, Product Owners and multiple product teams with varying levels of agile maturity.
* Act as an Agile champion and contribute to expanding the understanding and practice of agile principles and values throughout the entire organization
* Facilitate an environment of team spirit and excitement around constructive changes
* Work with the teams to identify and implement process improvements to improve both immediate and long-term productivity using Agile practices and tools
* Work with the teams to identify and manage interactive dependencies within a complex systems environment
* Work with the teams to identify and mitigate impediments and risks to the program
*
You understand that sometimes, the best way to teach is by doing and leading by example.
* Assess and identify gaps in knowledge and understanding of how Agile works and lead the teams through training and enablement sessions.
* Work closely with Project Managers to ensure the timely execution of the customer’s objectives
* Support existing product teams, and help teams be successful.

SCRUM MASTER ACCOUNTABILITIES

* TEAM COORDINATION: ensure teams operate to agreed team cadence and provide support to help teams reflect, learn and improve on their Agile practice
* DEPENDENCY COORDINATION: Support teams to ensure smooth collaboration among ‘extended’ team members where required and enable clear visualisation of dependency blockers
* TRACK AND MANAGE TEAM VISUAL MANAGEMENT BOARDS: Responsible for helping teams to maintain their team walls and keep them relevant over time to changing needs of the business
* CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: provide mentoring support to Product Owners and team members to refine their understanding of Agile practices
* SUPPORT PRODUCT OWNERS in each team to engage, inform, influence and negotiate with stakeholders using product backlogs (prioritised based on value) as the basis for discussions.
* WORK WITH THE AGILE COACH TO ENSURE ALIGNMENT TO AGILE VALUES PRINCIPLES.

AGILITY ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Work closely with Core Transition team in prioritization and planning new improvements initiatives.
* Facilitate and drive inception and release planning workshops
* Maintain relevant metrics that help the team see how they are doing and measure improvements as  well as offer enhanced transparency to management
* Help teams to improve performance and achieve software development excellence.
* Plan and support the implementation of scaled agile including SAFe Agile Release Trains (ART)
* Plan and support the implementation Continous Integration, Continious Development and DevOps

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
KNOWLEDGE:

*
You are an expert coach, mentor and facilitator. You are able to take people along on the agile journey.
*
Ability to mentor and coach at the individual, team and project level.
*
The ability to adapt and change your approach based upon the person or team involved
*
The voice of reason and authority and the ability to make tough calls
*
Understand of large, complex organisations dynamics and how change is managed in large organsisations
*
End to end value stream optimisation, & understand the value of commitments to delivery made by a development team
*
Recognise common agile problems and perform root cause analysis and apply the right agility technique or process to rectify the situation.
*
Experience applying a variety of patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: Retrospective formats, handling bugs, Backlog Prioritisation, collaboration, team building techniques etc.)
*
Passion for agile software development &  understand fundamentals of software development processes and procedures.
*
Understand incremental delivery and the benefit of metrics.
*
Understand backlog tracking and grooming, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition.
*
Familiarity with common Agile practices and better development practices
*
Willingness to adhere to and promote the Westpac Group’s methodologies, tools and standards to ensure consistency and compliance with Westpac standards

EXPERIENCE:

The level of experience required for the role is dependent on the program size.  The range of experience should include:

*
2+ years agile coaching, training or consulting skills and experience.
*
3+ years demonstrated ability to mentor teams in various aspects of Agile and be an Agile champion throughout the organization
*
5+ years of experience working in an Agile environment
*
5+ years experience working in software development environments
*
Perform Agile Iteration Manager / Scrum Master roles for new teams (if required to mentor others).
*
Deep understanding of a variety of Agile methods such as Scrum, XP, Feature Driven Development, Kanban, Lean and DevOps with the ability to transfer that understanding to all levels of the organisation
*
Conduct training for teams and stakeholders on Agile philosophies, methodologies, and practices.
*
Experience working with distributed teams and vendors.
*
Depending on the extent of experience required or vertical or industry experience:
*
Experience implementing and consulting on scalable agile frameworks such as SAFe or LeSS.
*
Expertise with agile engineering practices such as Continuous Integration, Automated Testing, Test-Driven Development, and Pair Programming
*
Experience training teams and large groups is a plus
*
3+ years’ experience in the financial services industry (desirable)
*
Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by Westpac (desirable)

Demonstrated experience in mentoring and achieving results with Agile teams with the following characteristics:
