A unique opportunity exists for a motivated Clinical Coder / Health Information Manager to work with a small team of dedicated coders within Health Information Services at Calvary Health Care ACT, Bruce. Applicants will be required to have completed a HIMAA recognised course in ICD 10 AM, ACHI and ACS clinical coding or have attained a recognised qualification in Health Information Management with appropriate coding units. It is expected applicants should have a minimum of twelve (12) months coding experience in the acute hospital setting using appropriate electronic coding tools and PAS system. An evaluation of the applicants skills in this area may be undertaken and the starting remuneration rate can be negotiable based on the experience the coder has obtained.

A thorough knowledge of current Australian Coding Standards and good working knowledge of Diagnostic Related Groups, Activity Based Funding and Casemix principles would be an advantage. Membership of, or eligibility for membership of HIMAA will be favourably considered.

As the hospital has a reasonably complex casemix, this is a challenging role and the successful applicant will need to utilise good organisational and time management skills. The ability to work cohesively within and across teams and the ability to liaise with staff from diverse groups is also essential. Sound written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are also a valuable asset.

The Clinical Coder / Health Information Manager position is responsible for; – Undertaking clinical coding and data entry of coding for inpatient episodes using ICD 10 AM, ACHI and ACS – Validate accuracy of DRG allocation for coded episodes – Completion of Cancer Notifications. – Optimise coding throughput and quality whilst adhering to data submission deadlines and in-house reporting timeframes – Participate in audits and other coding quality activities

Selection Criteria

Highly Desirable:

1. Completion of Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance and a current First Aid Certificate or equivalent.

2. Knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology and competence in manual handling, particularly for a broad range of patient groups.

3. Demonstrated skills in conducting group exercise programs that are responsive to the particular needs and abilities of the group.
