School Description
Nar Nar Goon Primary School is located in the rural town of Nar Nar Goon, east of the Melbourne fringe. It is five kilometres from Pakenham and surrounded by mostly farming activity. The school has been located on its present site for over seventy years and has recently undergone a major building program resulting in a total re-build of all administration and learning facilities. As of October 2015 there were 240 enrolments. The schools neighbourhood areas for enrolment include Nar Nar Goon, Nar Nar Goon North, Tynong, Tynong North and Cora Lyn. The school has a designated neighbourhood boundary.
The school provides an educational program based around a structure of both single year and multi-year grades. Specialist programs are provided in Art, Physical Education, Library and Reading Recovery. The teaching and learning program is based on AusVELS and is delivered using a variety of approaches. All classrooms are well equipped and provide a positive environment for effective teaching and learning to take place. The staff profile includes a blend of experienced and graduate teachers as well Education Support staff that provide support in the office, as integration aides and in the library.
The school aims to provide a safe and happy environment that supports students to participate in class and school activities, and enjoy learning. The development of the students is viewed as a shared responsibility between home and school. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their childrens learning and to participate in school activities. Staff members take responsibility for all children and aim to demonstrate positive leadership and be effective role models. The school has a range of programs and practices that encourage the development of childrens social, emotional and personal learning growth.
Nar Nar Goon has a high level of parental support and involvement. This includes parent membership on a variety of school groups and involvement in classroom activities, excursions and camps, and support in a range of other school activities. The school is proud of its positive standing in the local community.

Curriculum
Nar Nar Goon provides a range of curriculum programs and experiences that support each child to develop their learning skills, attitudes and social/emotional skills. Numeracy and Literacy skills are developed through programs such as CAFÉ, Open Learning Numeracy, Personalised Learning approaches, Inquiry based learning, Goal setting and Explicit Teaching. The curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum AusVELS.
The school offers a Foundation-6 sequential learning program in either single or multi-group classroom organisation. Teachers use a variety of groupings to support childrens learning with an increasing emphasis on personalising learning and guided choice as a teaching and learning framework. As well, the school provides specialist teaching in Art, Physical Education, Library and Reading Recovery. The school is fortunate to have a well-resourced Art Room and Tool Shed that are integrated into curriculum programs.
All classrooms have Interactive Whiteboards and all grades have a range of multimedia devices including desktop computers, laptops and iPads that form an integral part of the integrated learning environment. Learning technologies is seen as a vital component of all teaching and learning strategies.
Nar Nar Goon Primary Schools Strategic Plan (2014-2018) identifies the following for strategic improvement:

Selection Criteria
SC1 Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of initiatives in student learning including the Principles of Learning and Teaching P-12 and the Assessment and Reporting Advice and the ability to implement curriculum programs consistent with their intent.
SC2 Demonstrated understanding of how students learn and effective classroom teaching strategies and the capacity to work with colleagues to continually improve teaching and learning.
SC3 Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this data to inform teaching for improved student learning.
SC4 Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents and other staff.
SC5 Demonstrated commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities and a capacity to reflect on, evaluate and improve professional knowledge and practice.
Role
The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.
At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities.
The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels.
Under guidance, new entrants to the teaching profession will plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional learning activities that are designed to ensure the integration of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the school.
Teachers at range 1 are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also assist and participate in policy development, project teams and the organisation of co-curricula activities.
Responsibilities

year level
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting student progress in key
learning areas
- Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student
learning outcomes
- Maintaining records of class attendance and recording student
progress
- Implementing effective student management consistent with the
school charter.
- Working with a mentor to participate in professional development
planning, implementation and reflection developing a professional
portfolio
Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Supervising a range of student activities including support and
welfare programs
- Contributing to a range of co-curricular programs
Who May Apply
For the purpose of the Teacher Graduate Recruitment Program, graduate applicant eligibility is defined as a four-year trained qualified teacher who has completed all course requirements and graduated within the last four years; and not employed as a teacher by the Department at the time of the commencement of the advertised vacancy. Applicants must also be currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
