Health is one of QUTs largest faculties with nearly 600 Higher Degree Research students and approximately 10,000 coursework students enrolled across seventy courses. Approximately half of the Facultys 1,200 international students are enrolled in its undergraduate degrees. Our students have access to state-of-the-art learning spaces such as the newly refurbished 150-seat biomedical teaching laboratory at Gardens Point Campus and the Facultys teaching clinics (QUT Health Clinics) based at the Kelvin Grove campus.
The Facultys strength will continue to grow through its partnership with QUTs Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI). Working together, the Faculty and IHBI engage researchers in large scale programmatic activities allowing research to be undertaken at scale to address current and future global challenges. IHBIs researchers focus on three broad areas: prevention, intervention, and translation. Interdisciplinary research is conducted across three themes:

About the School of Public Health and Social Work
The School of Public Health and Social Work, one of seven Schools in the Faculty of Health, is a dynamic and progressive School that has an excellent reputation for high quality teaching, research and service. There are four disciplines in the School including Social Work and Human Services; Health Management; Public Health and Health Safety and Environment (HSE).
The School delivers courses and research that respond to the demand for better public health services, the promotion of better health and wellbeing, the promotion of social justice and human rights, improved promotion, prevention and treatment of disease and illness, safety and environmental health and policy development to achieve healthier, fairer, more inclusive societies.
Our courses are grounded in real-world practice and are designed to provide opportunities to study across diverse fields. The School has a large number of PhD and Masters by Research students.
The qualifications and industry experience of our academic staff are of the highest calibre. Many public health staff have held executive leadership positions in government and our social work staff are recognised social researchers, social activists, and welfare lobbyists.
We enjoy partnerships with governments, communities, universities, and health organisations in Australia and overseas. Our students, staff and graduates take part in influential research projects and collaborations with the broader community and contribute to a number of international projects.
We also facilitate the development of professional competence by providing Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) to corporations, industry and government in Australia and overseas. CPE provides flexible access to a range of workshops, short courses, and customised education programs.
About the Position
This position will lead the Schools Health, Safety and Environment discipline and grow and manage the disciplines contribution to teaching, research and service to advance our contribution to better health, safety and environment outcomes.
Further development of excellent relationships with a range of agencies engaged in occupational health and safety and environment health activities is an important component of this position. There is an opportunity to contribute to research within the Australia China Centre for Public Health and the Australia China Centre for Air Quality, particularly as it relates to the impact of air quality on the health of the population. Academics with qualifications in Environmental Epidemiology with expertise in air quality, or other areas of health, safety and environment expertise are also encouraged to apply. The ability to teach into courses in health, safety and environment is essential.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Head of School and will be a member of the School Executive. An understanding of the University sector and QUTs position as a University that educates highly competent professionals that can undertake research into real world problems and solutions is important.
This position reports to the Head, School of Public Health and Social Work for performance planning and review and workload management. This position holds membership with QUTs largest interdisciplinary research institute, the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI).
Key responsibilities
Lead the teaching and research efforts of QUT Public Health and Social Work to advance the contribution of health, safety and environment to better health outcomes through the translation of research into teaching, policy and practice.
Provide leadership in health, safety and environment and strengthen partnering relationships with industry and the community.
Make a significant contribution to teaching and learning and provide leadership in curriculum development in health, safety and environment.
Play a major role in scholarship, research, professional activities and service.
Establish effective and collaborative relationships within, and external to the University.
The successful candidate may be appointed at Associate Professor Level D or Professor Level E depending on their level of attainment against the position classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff). The position classification standards provide the basis to differentiate between the various levels of appointment and define the broad relationships between classifications.
The University reserves the right to appoint at either classification level.

Selection Criteria
1. Completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline area.
2. Record of outstanding leadership of research, including the ability to develop creative and novel solutions through translation of research outcomes into teaching, health and safety policy, and practice.
3. Demonstrated success at establishing and maintaining collaborations that extend best practice, implement leading solutions, and realise new opportunities.
4. Proven record of excellence and leadership in scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
5. Proven leadership that drives high performance and collaborative culture.
Salary and Benefits
The classification for this position is:
Academic Level D (Associate Professor) which has an annual salary of $131 655 to $145 053;
Academic Level E (Professor) which has an annual salary of $169 600.
