Location Profile
The Beachside Student Support Services team supports students in government schools located in short distance from Nepean Highway and includes the localitites of Cheltenham, Black Rock, Albert Park, Baeumaris, Moorabbin, Brighton, Elwood, Hampton and South Yarra. There are 17 primary schools, 6 secondary schools and 3 special development schools in the network.
The position of Speech Pathologist is located within an enthusiastic and supportive tean of allied health professionals including psychologists, guidance officers, speech pathologists and social workers. The SSSO team in the Beachside Network is based at the Jan Lake Centre in Moorabbin
Selection Criteria
1. Experience and sound knowledge of speech pathology techniques, including
speaking, listening, language, pragmatics, reading and augmentative
communication methods, and the ability to provide specialist advice on
appropriate intervention strategies.
2. Capacity to work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary professional team
and contribute significantly to the achievements of the team.
3. Ability to design, deliver or broker professional learning, preferably for teachers
and other relevant professionals, in the area of language and communication..
4. Ability to deliver a comprehensive speech pathology service to students and
families in an educational environment, including speech and language
assessment and reporting and the provision of advice on program delivery.
5. Capacity to apply highly developed assessment, conceptual and analytical skills.
6. Well-developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills.
Role
Provide speech pathology services to a school or network of schools.
Contribute to the delivery of student support services within a multi-disciplinary
team across a school network.
Contribute to the development and implementation of student support services
policy across a school network.
Support schools and teachers in the identification and development of
educational, social and emotional programs providing prevention, intervention
and postvention stages, particularly in respect to students who are vulnerable, or
have additional needs.
Work with and support children and young people in out of home care or those
impacted by trauma.
Provide advice to the leadership of a school network about student support
service needs.
Liaise with community service organisations, DHS, hospitals, specialist programs
and other professionals
Responsibilities
Provide a speech pathology service a school or network of schools that includes
conducting individual assessments; providing assessment reports and advice
about relevant teaching and learning strategies; and undertaking individual,
group and family work.
Provide professional advice and support to principals, school staff and school
communities that will enhance the learning, development and wellbeing of
students, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
Ensure professional advice is directed toward addressing government and
network student engagement and wellbeing priorities.
Contribute to the development of strategic interventions that support capacitybuilding
related to student learning, engagement and wellbeing consistent with the priorities of schools networks and the Department
Support the establishment and strengthening of links and referral pathways
between relevant departments, services, community organisations and schools
to optimise support for vulnerable children, young people and their families.
Provide collaborative support to a multi-disciplinary professional team that
provides wellbeing support to students.
Participate in staff support, supervision, learning and development and
knowledge sharing activities as a professional member of a multidisciplinary
team.
Who May Apply
Mandatory Qualifications
Approved qualifications in speech pathology that are acceptable for membership to
Speech Pathology Australia, including a university degree.
