he Sacred Heart Supportive and Palliative Care Service at St Vincents Hospital, Sydney, comprises an inpatient unit, a community palliative care team, and Day Centre. The service provides specialist palliative care and supportive care to patients living with advanced cancer, and other life limiting conditions. We are part of St Vincent’s Health Australia, the largest diversified health care organisation within Australia’s not for profit Catholic health care sector. As a Catholic health and aged care service provider, our mission is to bring God’s love to those in need through the healing ministry of Jesus, with a commitment to those who are poor and vulnerable.
The palliative care inpatient unit is a 39 bed unit. The unit provides palliative and supportive care to a variety of patients including those with life-limiting illness or receiving active treatment such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and patient with symptom-control and discharge planning.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Registered Nurse keen to join the Palliative Care Team. Your ability to demonstrate an understanding of the philosophy and principles of palliative care, in particular; symptom management, terminal care and psychological support for patients and carers would be most desirable. Appropriate applications from for Clinical Nurse Specialist status are welcome through the usual regrading process.
The service provides an in-depth orientation, extensive education programs and clinical supervision for all nursing staff. Nurses are further supported by Clinical Nurse Educators and Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultants. There is an opportunity for professional development through placements with the community and consultative teams.

Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries
Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)/Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional developmentDemonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work within the interdisciplinary team
Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice as a registered nurse
Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads with in a complex environmentExperience working in Palliative Care or related specialty
