Prep to 9 Curriculum:-

During these years we provide a comprehensive curriculum which incorporates the individual academic, physical, social, personal and technological needs of students into their daily learning experiences.

Programs cater for the individual learning styles and needs of students, providing them with the opportunity to achieve positive learning outcomes, build on prior knowledge and skills, and experience success.

The curriculum is based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and covers the domains of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, Personal Learning, Interpersonal Development, Civics and Citizenship, Communication, Design, Creativity and Technology, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and Thinking Processes.

Domains are incorporated into Integrated Unit studies. These are based around meaningful and relevant topics to help students develop greater understanding and skills about the world around them.

The Early Years Numeracy and Literacy programs are integral parts of the curriculum. These are modified to suit the needs of the students.

The Early Years Numeracy Program concentrates primarily on Money, Time and Number. The program encourages students to experiment with and explore a wide range of materials, participate in practical activities that teach and reinforce concepts, develop an understanding of basic maths and develop problem solving skills.

The Early Years Literacy Program focuses on developing reading, writing and speaking and listening skills through shared and guided reading activities, the use of learning centre activities, handwriting and motor skills and phonemic awareness.

Teachers in the early Years classes use the Developmental Play and language experience approach to teach and reinforce the components of the Literacy program.

An extensive range of programs reflects the school’s focus on maximum growth and development for students. Specialist teaching programs are offered to students in Art, Construction, Computer, Health and Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Performing Arts (music, dance & drama) and Homecrafts. Further programming includes Health and Human Relations, Library, Environmental Education, Sunsmart Education, Swimming, Student Representative Council, Speech Therapy, Transition to Futures for Young Adults programs, Work Experience, Work Crews and Self Esteem and Enrichment programs.

All classes access a camp during the year. These range from an overnight sleepover to several nights away. Class teachers integrate camp preparation and reflection into classroom programs.

Specialised strategies for maximising learning for students with Autism are integrated across the curriculum.

The `Starting Right’ Program is implemented for the first two weeks at the beginning of each school year. This program is used to establish the culture and environment in each classroom and develop relationships between all class members. Aspects of `Starting Right’ are revisited at the beginning of each new term. The school is has developed a set of School Rules for both students and staff to abide by making the school and safe and secure learning environment. .

Laptop Program:-

Every student in Year 7 to 9 takes part in the Laptop Program purchasing a computer from the school at reduced cost and or using a laptop provided by the school.

Learning technologies are incorporated into all learning areas. All classes have access to computers in each classroom as well as in the computer lab where skills are taught individually and in small groups. Interactive Whiteboards are integrated into our Teaching & Learning practices.
