Detroit, MI:The impact that mental health has on society today is monumental. There are countless individuals in the United States alone who are facing the challenges that come from living life with emotional disturbances which include stress, depression, anxiety, and OCD.  Approximately 58 million Americans suffer from a mental health disorder each year, which is the equivalent of about 26% of the adult population in the US. In children and adolescents, an estimated one in every five children will suffer from some form of mental health condition each year. In the state of Michigan 10.2% of the population suffers from major depression compared to 8.7% of the overall US population. By 2030, major depression will surpass heart disease to become the number one burden of disease in the world (Michigan Department of Community Health).  Additionally, many times emotional disturbances negatively impacts one’s overall physical health.
