Initial investigation has revealed that three adult males were working on sewer lines near the west access road in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. Two males fell 12 feet down into the sewer lines and a partial collapse occurred. The third adult male called emergency services.

Fox Valley, Richmound Fire and Richmound and Leader EMS attended and were able to pull a 25-year-old male from Calgary to the surface. He was transported to Maple Creek Hospital, however he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Emergency services were unable to immediately access the sewer lines due to noxious fumes, and a local farmer attended with equipment that was able to lift a 24-year-old male from Calgary to the surface where he was pronounced dead.

The weather at the time of the accident was rain/sleet with high winds, but it is unknown if this is a factor. Both males were employed by a company from Swift Current. The name of their employer will not be identified. Their names will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation into this workplace accident has been handed over to the Occupational Health and Safety Division in the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety for the Province of Saskatchewan. Autopsies will occur and the investigation continues with the Office of the Chief Coroner. Thank you to Maple Creek RCMP and all other emergency services for their assistance.
