MASON CITY, Iowa – It’s time to find your golf clubs, dust off the cobwebs and get ready for another season out on the green.

Golfing in March to many who live in this area, is a miracle; especially for course and driving range owners. Adam Brinkman works at North Iowa Golf and says that while the range has only been open for a couple of days, it has been busier than ever.

“A lot of the courses are opening up this weekend so everyone is just getting the itch,” he says, “they all want to get out here and hit balls and I’m sure the courses are going to be really busy all week long.”

Some courses are open already, while others are still in the process of thawing things out. Highland Park Golf Course Crews have been hard at work for the last month getting everything ready for their opening day. This time last year, clubhouse manager Ryan Olson wouldn’t have dreamed of kicking off their season for at least another couple of weeks, but he’s hopeful things will get going and they’ll be open by Thursday.

“I think we are going to be packed if we can get open this week,” he says. “The weather looks like it’s going to drop a little bit but a lot of our regulars out here that golf well into November don’t mind golfing when it’s 30 or 40 degrees outside so, if we do get our course open this week we’re going to have a lot of people knocking on our door.”

Knocking on the door, and hopefully knocking balls out of the park until the seasons over. To find courses near you, check out the course finder on www.golf.com.
