Only a few weeks to go before the 2014 Kimberley Diamond Cup skateboarding world championships,
The Midway Mayhem carries a total prize purse of R50 000 as well as a coveted wild card entry into the amateur division of the world championships, which will take place in Kimberley from 1 – 5 October. Midway Mayhem will feature a unique format and programme with amateur vert and street contests, a women’s street competition and the Rider Cup team contest.
Twenty-four skateboarders, including the top ten finishers from last year’s Kimberley Diamond Cup will battle it out in eight heats on the street section. The top 13 skaters from the Midway Mayhem qualifiers will be able to join the action.
The Rider Cup team competition will see 12 teams of four skaters taking part in the single-elimination, head-to-head bracket format contest. Each team will have four minutes to impress the judges and qualify for a spot at the KDC Rider Cup in October.
The Women’s Street contest features an open entry jam format competition, with cash prizes for the top 3 skaters. Skaters will be given 4 minutes each per jam on each section of the park.
Skateboarding enthusiasts and members of the public are encouraged to come to Kimberley to support the nation’s best skateboarders and to experience the excitement and danger of skateboarding. Admission to the skate park is free and camping at the adjacent Big Hole Caravan Park is free of charge all weekend. This is also the perfect opportunity for visitors to enjoy the abundance of activities and amazing tourism sights that Kimberley has to offer.
