I recently met Kylie van Wanrooy, the woman behind the designer swimwear label, Beyond the Sea. She was extremely busy making the women of Sydney at Finders Keepers Markets very happy by selling them her gorgeous retro cute pinup inspired swimwear. Click here to read all about it.
Kylie was wearing one of her gorgeous swimsuits with jeans. It inspired me to see how I could smash a fashion rule – swimwear for the beach or pool only – so I road tested how to wear swimwear as clothes.
As my base for these outfits, I used the beautiful Detachable Strap One Piece in black lace layered over a gorgeous lavender pink. I received this piece as a gift from Beyond the Sea Swimwear.
Swimwear as Clothes | Beach to Lunch
Want to grab a quick lunch in a beachside cafe but not keen on wearing your swimmers in public? Easy!
I teamed my one piece suit with a simple pair of drawstring waist shorts, a glamorous floppy sunhat and Mox flats – just kick off the sand and they’re good to go. A silk scarf tied as a hair bow is a great way to keep your messy beach hair looking chic. Click here for my step by step guide.

Swimwear as Clothes | Dressy Casual
This outfit would be perfect for a barbecue where you’ve been told to “bring your swimmers”. I’ve teamed some silky cuffed pants with my one piece suit and added some embellished flat sandals. A simple resin chunky necklace and bracelet are easy to slip off and won’t get lost in your beach bag. A floral crown is a great way to deal with messy post swim hair and still look glam. Swimwear as Clothes | Beach to Bar
You’re on holiday, you’ve run out of clean clothes and you’ve got a night out planned. What to do? Team a very pretty one piece suit with a floaty silky maxi skirt, and glam it up with jewellery and statement sandals. Winch in your waist with a wide belt and work that beach hair. Good to go!
