KILLARNEY based Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd has just revealed details of an exciting new apprentice scheme with training for successful candidates due to commence in October.

The thriving company has experienced exceptional growth in recent years and investment in the facilities continues apace with employee numbers continuing to increase.

The Fossa plant entered into a collaboration with the Institute of Technology Tralee in 2015 and the joint venture has been an outstanding success. Depending on the ambition and ability of individuals, a level 6, 7, or 8 qualifications is now attainable through the programme.

A level 8 qualification is the equivalent of an honours bachelor degree on the QQI National framework of qualifications. The 2016 apprentices will graduate in 2020 with a globally recognised qualification.

Liebherr is one of the world’s leading suppliers of state-of-the-art container handling equipment, manufacturing ship to shore container cranes for loading and unloading in ports as well as support equipment for the stacking of containers in container yards and loading on trucks and trains.

Director, Pat O’Leary, remarked: “In effect, Liebherr is now offering academic scholarships to our apprentices. This is a significant enhancement to the traditional apprenticeship programme and is a fantastic opportunity for the successful applicants”.

He added: “The apprentice can now train to the level of a highly qualified professional engineer with enhanced skills on an earn and learn basis. It provides the qualifying applicants with additional and better employment opportunities.”

The company is currently seeking apprenticeship applications for electrical, mechanical automation and maintenance fitters metal fabrication. To apply simply forward a CV with a copy of exam results and a cover letter to: apprenticerecruit.lcc@liebherr.com
