IT gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘pitch dark’.

And while some said it would never catch on – they were well off the mark.

Killarney’s Deerpark club will once again stage its now annual night time pitch and putt extravaganza for on Saturday, September 24 and, for those that enjoy a challenge, it’s an occasion not to be missed.

Since it started in 2012, the novel after dark event has been a great success and the proceeds this year will go to the Kerry-Cork Cancer Health Link Bus.

Play will be over 12 holes in a three-ball scramble format with the tournament being

played off scratch this year. The entry fee is €75 per team with the event getting underway well after darkness falls at 8.00pm.

LED golf balls, which light up upon striking, will be provided for use by all teams and in the interests of safety players are asked to bring either a torch, head or flash lamps and luminous clothing as an addition to the lighting that will be provided on the night.

This year’s event is sponsored by Jimmy Brien’s Bar and all information on the event is available from co-ordinator Aidan O’Donoghue on 086-3364705. Pre-booking is essential to allow sufficient time for the event to be organised.
