Boy in blue: Ceejay in his full Garda uniform

THEY might be extremely busy but even the Gardaí in Killarney need to pause for an occasional cuppa.

And they want the people of the town to join them when they put the kettle on for a really good cause in the Killarney Plaza Hotel next Tuesday morning.

The boys and girls in blue are hosting a coffee morning to raise funds to support the smallest and bravest member of the force, Ceejay McArdle, who was diagnosed with leukaemia two years ago and is still undergoing intensive treatment at Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

The money raised will help send four-year-old Ceejay and his parents to New York so that the law and order infatuated little boy can realise his dream to take part in the St Patrick’s Day parade with members of the NYPD and An Garda Siochana.

Garda Gillian MacEoin of Killarney Garda Station said Ceejay has always had a huge interest in police work and wants to be a Garda when he grows up.

When his parents contacted the force and police units around the world to send him messages of goodwill, they opted to go one step further and raise funds to help the little boy.

They also arranged for Ceejay to be fitted for his own custom-made Garda uniform and he graduated from the Garda Training College in Templemore when he was made an honorary member of the force by Garda Commissioner Noirín O’Sullivan.

The fundraising coffee morning will take place in the Window Bar at the Killarney Plaza next Tuesday, September 27, at 10.30am. It is being organised by Garda MacEoin, Supt Flor Murphy and Sgt Dermot O’Connell

Local business in town are kindly donating cakes, and other treats and the public is urged to make a special effort to attend.

Otherwise, Garda Ceejay McArdle will be putting your name in his little black book.
