THE Gneeveguilla GAA club carnival weekend will be held on September 4-6. Friday evening will kick off with the club’s county championship minor team of 1985 playing the current minor team. There will be music in the hall afterwards by The Handy Pack.
Saturday will see a senior game for the Noel O’Sullivan Cup at 6.30pm followed by Camel Racing at 8.30pm with a tote in operation. Sunday is Lá Le Club with the Paddy O’Leary Shield under 10 competition plus a bonny baby show and barbecue. A full selection of amusements will be on site throughout the weekend and everyone is welcome.
Ravens: Rathmore Ravens basketball club’s player registration will take place on Monday next, August 24 at 7.30pm in Rathmore Gym. Everyone welcome. The club is also holding a used clothing collection on September 24 at a venue and time to be confirmed. Accepted items include unwanted clothes, bed linen, towels, curtains, bags, belts and softy toys. Please support.
Wedding: Congratulations to Kerry footballer star Aidan O’Mahony who wed Denise Healy, Aghadoe, Killarney in Portugal. We wish both of them a happy and long life together.
Party: A retirement party for Lena Kelleher, matron of Millstreet Community Hospital, is being organised for Friday, September 4 at 7.30pm in the Wallis Arms, Millstreet. Thode that would like to attend please text 087-6270806 or call 029-70003. Tickets are limited.
Unveiling: The Millstreet Monuments Committee will unveil a plaque to commemorate the centenary visit of Padraig Pearse to Millstreet in 1915. The unveiling will take place on August 22 at 7.30pm outside Corkery’s Bar, Millstreet and the event will launch Heritage Week in Duhallow. All ware elcome to attend.
Deaths: Sympathy is extended to the families of Murt O’Shea, Marian Terrace, Killarney and Kathleen Moynihan (née Rellis), Clounts, Rathmore whose deaths occurred last week. May they rest in peace.
Registration: Gneeveguilla Basketball Club’s registration for the coming season takes place on Tuesday, September 1 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm in the Club Bar, Gneeveguilla. The fee is €65 per child for the year, €110 for two children and €140 for three or more children. New members are very welcome.
Games: The very best of luck to the Rathmore/Gneeveguilla Community Games boys under 13 basketball team who are representing Kerry and Munster in the national finals in Athlone next weekend. Ciarrai Abu!
Cycling: The Kerry County Championship, hosted by Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club, will take place this Saturday, August 22. Sign on at Gneeveguilla Post Office from 10.00am.
Wishes: Best of luck to Donal Hickey on his retirement after a long career in journalism. The Gneeveguilla native was also editor of Sliabh Luachra Journal over the years. We wish well on his retirement.
Football: Congratulations to Ashlinn Desmond who played a starring role for Kerry against Mayo in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final. Kerry now face Cork in the semi-final. Best of luck to Aidan O’Mahony and Paul Murphy on Sunday against Tyrone in Croke Park and to Darren Brosnan, Gneeveguilla who is playing with Kerry minors against Derry.
Barbecue: Tureencahill Community Group’s annual barbecue will take place on Sunday, September 13 at 2.00pm in the school grounds.
