Mediapolis is leading the Class 2A division of the State Wrestling Tournament with 21 points, that’s not surprising. What is surprising is that the #2 ranked wrestler at 160 pounds for the Bulldogs Cole Erickson got pinned in the 1st round by a wrestler from Dubuque Wahlert while he was leading the match 16-3. Erickson tried for a takedown that would have given him a technical fall, but made a technical mistake and Andrew Turner put him on his back and pinned him. Erickson recovered and pinned his next opponent in the wrestle backs to remain in the hunt for at least a 3rd place finish. All 8 of the Mediapolis wrestlers that qualified for state made it through the 1st day, and now prepare for the quarter and semi finals today.

Avery Loyd of New London won his class 1A heavyweight 1st round match by pin and will wrestle in the quarterfinals today against a wrestler from St. Ansgar.
