Villages of Van Buren in scenic Southeast Iowa invite you to their largest event of the year! The Scenic Drive Festival, which is always held the second full weekend in October, is full of fun activities for the entire family!

Visitors are encouraged to follow the marked “Scenic Drive” through the county to experience each of the historic Villages. There will be Fine Arts, Crafts, Flea Markets, Music & Entertainment, Car Show, Tractor Shows, Parade, Tours of Historic Sites, Fun Runs and so much more. New this year, University of Iowa’s amazing Mobile Museum will be in downtown Keosauqua. Exhibits focus on 3 different eras of Iowa’s history; Ice Age Giants, Loess Hills and the founding of Iowa. Be sure to bring your camera for the fun photo contest with a grand prize of a 2-night stay at Pine Ridge Retreat Cabins at Lake Sugema! There is no admission fee to the Scenic Drive Festival. The Fun Photo contest encourages everyone to grab their camera to win prizes! There are 13 wooden “standees” throughout the Villages (standees are painted scenes on plywood with cut-out holes for guests to pose with their face in the scene.) Visitors must seek out at least 5 and take their picture. Pictures must be presented at the Welcome Center (809 1st St., Keosauqua) no later than 3pm on Sunday Oct. 12 or emailed by 8am on Monday Oct. 13. One lucky winner will receive a 2-night stay at Pine Ridge Retreat cabins at Lake Sugema!

Bentonsport

• Bentonsport Hours: Sat 10a-5p & Sun 10a-5p. Artists’ demonstrations daily

• The 39th Annual Bentonsport Art Festival, an annual juried art show with 30+ artists and fine craft artisans showcasing printing, photography, sculptures, fabric arts, jewelry and more.

• Live music all weekend at the Gazebo: Saturday: 1-4pm is “Blue Cat Alley” . A very popular group from Fairfield, IA. 4-5pm is Modern Dance by Becca. Sunday: 1:30-3:30pm the band “Purdies” will perform.

• Indian Artifact Museum & Specialty Shops will be open 10a-5pm

• The Riverside Park will be filled with antique, craft, flea market and food vendors. Bake sales & raffles.

• New this year, face & body art painter, “Wabam” will be near the gazebo in the park offering professional face painting.

Saturday Only

• 10a-4p. Nauvoo on the Road with demonstrations of rope making, candle making, games and other pioneer activities.

Birmingham

• Trash and Treasures Sale in the City Park Saturday (8:30a-5p) & Sunday (8:30a-4p).

• Lunch served on Saturday by the Lions beginning at 11a in the City Park Shelterhouse. Refreshments will be available on Sunday.

Cantril (Saturday Only)

• All-U-Can-Eat Black Kettle Ham & Beans and Cornbread with a drink and dessert. 11a-2p at the Fire Station.

• Dutchman’s Store: Be sure to visit this old-fashioned general store. You’ll delight in their large selection of bulk food and candy, fresh produce, deli, fabric & craft room, homemade items, fall flowers and ornamentals. Sat. 8a-5p, Closed Sunday.

Bonaparte

• A silent auction at the Opera House featuring 24” Vintage Bride Dolls dressed in 1860’s era costume. Bidding will be open Sat. & Sun. 10a – 4p

• Antique, Craft & Food vendors in the City Park from 9a-5p.

• 2nd Annual Quilt Show will be held at the Bonaparte United Church (5th & Texas St.) from 10a-4p on Saturday and 12-4p on Sunday. Featuring beautiful handmade quilts, wall hangings, runners and toppers. Public voting for “Best of Show” Award.

• All meals will be served as a Free Will Donation. On Saturday there will be a Soup Luncheon from 11a-1p at the Opera House. The Fire Station will be serving sandwiches from 11a-5p on both days.

• The Sunrise Bakery (31154 210th St., North of Bonaparte on W40) will have a home-cooked Amish buffet from 5p-7:30p on Friday & Saturday. Adults: $10, Children ages 5-12: $5, Ages under 4” free.

Saturday only

• Bonaparte Library (210 Washington St.) will have a book sale and caramel apples.

Farmington

• Iowa Parelli Savvy Fest Horsemanship & Cattle Clinic. Spectators welcome. No admission fee. River Valley Lodge, 29080 Hawk Drive.

• Cowboy Church held on Sunday at 9am at River Valley Lodge and Campground.

• New this year, is the Wacky Water Walkerz, better known as “human hamster balls”, large pliable, plastic balls made for people of all ages to get inside and then try to “walk on water.”

• Keosauqua Fall Festival. Arts, Crafts, Wood Crafts, Food and several NEW Vendors will be set up downtown & in the Roberts Memorial Building (Hwy 1 N.) Vendors open Friday 4-7p, Sat. 9a-5p & Sun. 10a-4p.

Sunday Only

• Kids Pedal Pull by Hawkeye Pedal Pull downtown Cass Street registration 1p and pull at 1:30p.

• 8th Annual Car & Motorcycle Show on First Street featuring classic & unique cards, trucks, hot rods, and motorcycles. Held rain or shine. Registration 10a-12p. Awards at 3p.

• Pearson House Museum will be open 1-4pm.

• The Southeast Iowa Cattle Dog Trial. Iowa’s largest 2 day cattle dog trial featuring some of the smartest dogs in the Midwest! Starts at 9:00a. (Sunday Only) 2.5 miles N. of Keosauqua on Hwy 1. No admission.

Lacey – Keosauqua State Park

• Buckskinners Rendezvous will be held at Ely Ford with demonstrations, knife & tomahawk throwing, black powder shoot, archery, basket weaving, traders row (with period goods), a food vendor (with Indian Fry Bread), candy cannons, and more. No admission fee.

• Sunday Only: The 8th Annual Lacey Keosauqua Fall Run & Trail Walk. A 5K, 10K or 2 Mile Trail Walk. Race begins at 9am. Entry Fees: Pre-registration (by 10/8/14) $15, Walk-up $20, & Family $50. Registration 8:15-8:45a on Sunday at the Lodge. The first 60 people will receive a free T-shirt. Registration forms available at www.keosauqua.com.

Milton Area

• Guided tours of the historic Mormon Graves at Richardson’s Point. Saturday & Sunday 9a-5p. The informative guide will share his knowledge of the events leading up to the encampment at Richardsons Point, where the first deaths along the Mormon Pioneer Trail in 1846 occurred. Tours every 30 minutes. No admission fee. 11251 Rte. J-40, Milton. Watch for signs.

• Historic Barn Tour. Brad Klodt will offer guided tours of this 1895 restored barn as well as share an impressive collection of antique John Deere tractors, vintage pedal tractors and a miniature Barn display. There will also be a local honey producer with samples of honey-made products as well as apple pressing demonstrations. No admission fee. 21483 Acorn Ave., Milton. Watch for signs.

Saturday Only- Milton Christian Church

• Tractor Show with modern & restored tractors at the Christian Church 301 E. Oak, Milton. Saturday only 9a-5p.
