The Iowa Wesleyan softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Westminster College today at Westminster. The Tigers fell 3-0 in game one and 10-6 in game 2
IWC is now 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the SLIAC.
The spring continues to hamper the start of the baseball season, as the Iowa Wesleyan baseball field is not in condition to host the schedules games this weekend.
The Tigers will instead hit the road on Friday to take on Principia College in the Tigers’ first SLIAC action.
Iowa Wesleyan and Principia will play their first game of the weekend on Friday, March 21. The first pitch will be thrown at 8:00pm. The teams will then return to the Principia diamond on Saturday for a doubleheader, starting at 1:00pm.
The Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club is opening at noon today for walking play. Remember hole #5 is still closed.
The Iowa Hawkeye wrestlers stumbled early Thursday, but rebounded to advance a tournament-best six into the quarterfinals and climb back into a fourth-place tie with Oklahoma in the team race after the first day of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The Hawkeyes and Sooners have 20 ½ points, trailing leader Penn State by 6 ½.
Iowa State has six wrestlers still going for medals and UNI has 3.
Iowa State men’s basketball is going to be playing in the NCAA Tournament tonight. Iowa State is a #3 seed. The “Clones” play North Carolina Central in the East Regional Tournament tonight at 8:45 p.m. KILJ-FM 105.5 will bring you all the action beginning at 8 p.m.
The Iowa women made the NCAA Tournament and will host Marist Sunday. Iowa State also made the women’s tourney and hosts Florida State Saturday.
It’s time for the annual Southeast Iowa All Star Basketball game, games are schedules for Saturday March 22nd at Burlington Notre Dame High School. The girl’s game will start at 5:00 and the boys game will follow.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will sponsor free baseball umpire clinics around the state.
Clinics will cover new rules and some requirements as well as how to get registered with the Iowa High School Athletic Association in order to umpire at any level. They will also work with you on how to umpire the bases and the clinic provides live pitching/catchers and we work with you on positioning when working the plate.
Equipment required is a plate cap and mask For those just getting started you can purchase all umpiring equipment (including fitted caps) at the clinic. Participants should bring money if they desire to purchase equipment or special baseball books that will be available at the clinic. Equipment may be purchased with the use of a credit card, however books are cash only.
The date for the free IHSAA Baseball Umpire Clinic in S.E. Iowa is April 23rd at Ottumwa High School beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Washington and Mt. Pleasant are going to play each other in football June 7th at Washington. No it’s not a high school game, it’s an alumni game. The Panthers and Demons of yesterday will meet in a real tackle football game that will be sanctioned by Alumni Football USA. An organization that has put on 700 alumni games in 28 states and has raised over $1 million for local charities. These gentleman will not only spend time practicing and getting in shape, but will also spend $100 to be equipped and insured. The game is part of the Washington, Iowa 175 anniversary celebration, following the game two bands and refreshments will be enjoyed in uptown Washington.
There needs to be 25 players on each team signed up and prepaid by May 7th for the game to be held. At this time over 50 players at each school have indicated interest in playing in the game. Pre-sales of tickets for the game will take place at a cost of $10 per ticket, half that money will be given to a designated charity of the local teams.
Other area alumni games that are played include WMU vs Waco and Columbus Community against Wapello.
