The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the Class 1A and 2A boys basketball tournament schedule.  In Class 1A, Waco plays host to Harmony on February 17th, the winner plays Danville at New London on February 20th in the first game of a double header, the second game is IMS vs New London.  The other half of the district has a double header on February 20th at Lone Tree with Holy Trinity Catholic playing Highland at 6:30 and WMU plays Lone Tree at 8 p.m.  Winners from the 20th action will play District semi games in a double header on February 25th.  The final is February 27th, the Substate game is March 1st at Iowa City West.

Class 2A  opens play February 17th when a double header at Burlington Notre Dame has  Mediapolis playing L&M at 6:30 p.m. and Central Lee plays Wapello at 8 p.m.  West Burlington will play the winner of the L&M/Mediapolis game on February 20th at Notre Dame in the 1st game of a twin bill followed by Notre Dame playing the Central Lee/Wapello winner.  The District finals is at Burlington High School February 25th, the Substate is at Cedar Rapids Jefferson March 1st.

 

Mt. Pleasant wrestled at Muscatine last night.  The Panthers lost to North Scott 60-10.  In the big match of the dual at 220 lbs.  #3 ranked Cordell Eaton, N.S.  dec. #4 ranked Justin Dilks 5-3.   Winning matches for M.P 120: Colton Mertens dec. Ryan Renken, NOSC, 3-2. Tyler Lanphier, MOPL, maj. dec. Ethan Stilson, NOSC, 14-0. Josh Larson, MOPL, dec. Kiel Brown, NOSC, 6-0.

Muscatine beat Mt. Pleasant 52-25, winning matches for M.P.:  at 220: Justin Dilks, MOPL, pinned Talon Burke, MUSC, 3:41. 120: Colton Mertens, MOPL, maj. dec. Colton Oldfield, MUSC, 13-3. 126: Conner Eads, MOPL won by forfeit. . 132: Tyler Lanphier, MOPL, pinned Justice Cardoza, MUSC, 0:57. 152: Josh Larson, MOPL, dec. Dalton Hart, MUSC, 3-2.

Mt. Pleasant is done with the regular season and will wrestle in the 3A district at Burlington on February 15th.

Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team picked up their 13th victory of the season on the road at Centerville last night beating the Redettes 60-30.  Taryne Shull scored 21 points, Hannah Becker added 13 and Kelsi Phipps 10.

Panthers won the JV game 40-25.

The Panthers play at Iowa City West Saturday afternoon with the JV game at 2  and the varsity to follow.

The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s basketball team picked up a big conference win on the road last night.  The Tigers defeated Spalding University 64-61 to move to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the SLIAC.  The win puts the Tigers at the top of the SLIAC all by themselves.  The Tigers trailed the entire game until taking a 62-61 lead in the last 15 seconds then held on to capture the win. Lauren Grubb scored 24 points to pace the Tigers.

The Iowa Wesleyan College men’s basketball team fell 71-52 to Spalding University tonight, Trey Politte had 14 points. The Tigers are now 5-12 overall and 2-8 in the SLIAC.

The 8th grade boys basketball team also battled Fairfield.  In the “A” game Mt. Pleasant won 57-31, Brady Sartorius scored 16, Colin Mulford 12.

In the “B” game M.P.M.S. won 41-15, Damien Sanchez and Kyle Vanderham scored 12 points each.  The “C” game was won by Mt. Pleasant 24 Fairfield 14, Keegan Rich had 12 points.
