Ft. Madison put a scare into the Mt. Pleasant Panther girls basketball team in the Hound Dome last night, M.P. walked out with a 51-45 overtime win after beat the Bloodhounds by 39 points 30 days earlier.  Mt. Pleasant had to come back from a 9 point 1st quarter deficit to win the game.  Taryne Shull led the Panther scoring with 13 points, Kelsi Phipps and Hannah Becker each had 12.

Mt. Pleasant won the JV game 52-39 and the freshman game 48-28.

Iowa City West who has an 8-9 overall record will host the Mt. Pleasant Panther girls tonight in Iowa City. Mikaela Morgan leads the Lady of Troy team in scoring at 16 points a game and grabs 10 rebounds a game.

OTHER GIRLS SCORES:  #4 Mediapolis 67 Waco 23, Keokuk beat #2 ranked Burlington Notre Dame 70-64, New London 70 Holy Trinity Catholic 33, Highland 41 Wapello 37.

7th ranked Ft. Madison varsity boys defeated Mt. Pleasant in Panther Gym 68-54, the Panthers made a run at the Bloodhounds in the 2nd half when they outscored them 28-23 in the 3rd quarter, but ran out of gas and were outscored 15-6 in the 4th quarter.  Leading M.P. in scoring was Trey Magnani with 31 points he had 5 three point field goals, Dustin Amos added 12.  Miles Wentzien paced the Bloodhounds with 29 points.

Mt. Pleasant won the JV game 52-46, but dropped the freshman game 53-46 Dshundric Foster scored 16 points and Zach Ebling 11 for M.P.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade boys basketball teams hosted Ottumwa.  In the “A” game M.P. won 54-12, Brady Sartorius scored 16 points and Colin Mulford 14.  “B” game also went to the Panthers 34-17, Damian Sanchez had 16 points, Nick Steffens added 11.  “C” game Mt. Pleasant won 14-11, Keegan Rich had 10 points.

The Iowa Wesleyan College basketball games that were postponed on Saturday (against Webster University) have been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 10.  Women’s game tips off at 6:00pm with the men’s game to follow at 8:00pm.

 

16th ranked Iowa State won an overtime thriller at Oklahoma State last night 98-97.  17th ranked Iowa tonight plays host to Ohio State with tipoff at 6 p.m.  The SCC Blackhawk men’s basketball team hosts John Wood tonight.

Drivers, sponsors, fans and employees were all honored at the 34 Raceway 2013 season awards banquet held Saturday night.  2013 Season Track Champions were recognized, Mark Burgtorf (Late Models), Mitch Morris (IMCA Modifieds), John Schulz

(305 Sprints), Bobby Anders (IMCA Sport Mods), Jason Cook (IMCA Stock Cars), Evan Epperson (Mod Lites) and Wayne Noble (4 cylinders).

Along with the regular Saturday night divisions race fans will see the best take on the 3/8 mile. The World of Outlaws Sprints will return again this year following a grandstand filling, crowd pleasing show in 2013. Also on the schedule will be the Sprint Invaders, MOWA 410 Outlaw Sprints, Slocum 50 Cornbelt/MARS/ALMS Super Late Models in honor of Brent Slocum paying $10,000 to win,and the Pepsi UMP Late Models Hell Tour Summer Nationals among them.

Along with the best in racing from the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, 305 Sprints, IMCA Stock Cars, Mod Lites and 4 Cylinders race fans will see Quads, Pit Bikes, Bikes and Side by Sides scheduled throughout the year.

The season begins on March 15 and 16 with the much anticipated and popular Midwest Performance  & Power Westland Mall Car Show. The season kick off party will be held at Roederers Pit Shop in Burlington on Saturday night, March 15.

Test and Tune will be held Saturday, March 22 and the first racing event will be held on Saturday, March 29 with the Sprint Invaders Season Opener.
