The top ranked 45-4 Holy Trinity Catholic Crusader volleyball team opens up state tournament play tonight at 6 p.m. against 23-6 Guthrie Center at the U S Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.  This is the 4th straight state tournament appearance for HTC and their 7th in the last 9 years under head coach Melissa Freesmeier who is in her 21st year of coaching and possesses 729 career wins.  Guthrie Center is making their first ever appearance at state, they are coached by 6th year coach Kara Boyer who has a 49-24 record.  KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the match live with the broadcast scheduled to start at 6 p.m.  But that may run a little late depending on how long earlier matches last.

 

 

Drake handed the Iowa Wesleyan Tiger men’s basketball team a 104-49 defeat in Des Moines last night in front of 3,000 fans.  The Bulldogs led 53-22 at halftime.  Leading Wesleyan in scoring was Dion Lightner a 6’ 3” freshman from Texas with 10 points, Tigers shot 16 of 49 from the field and 12 of 17 from the free throw line.  Drake out rebounded IWC 46-19.  Next game for the Tigers is Saturday November 16th at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon.

The 17th ranked Colorado women’s team coached by former WMU star Linda Lampe beat Colorado State 63-59.

The schedule for 34 Raceway in 2014is going to be highlighted by the Slocum 50 paying $10,555  to win  in 2014 With the 2013 season at 34 Raceway in the books Amy Laue is putting the finishing touches on the 2014 schedule. And top that schedule is the announcement of the return of the World Of Outlaws Sprint Car series to 34 Raceway. After a record crowd last year of over 5000 fans the 410 Outlaws will return to the 3/8 mile on June 27. Thinking this would be an off year for the WoO at 34 Raceway, the Laue’s were contacted by the World of Outlaw people and said they wanted to come back in 2014, so the Laue’s agreed. Details for tickets will be announced soon just in time for Christmas The season will kick off at the annual Midwest Performance & Power 2 day car show, March 15 & 16, as well as the long awaited Roederer’s Pit Stop Season Kick Off Party on Saturday, March 15th.The Test-n-Tune will be held on Saturday, March 22 , noon to 3pm with the Sprint Invaders season opener held on Saturday, March 29th, along with Mod Lites, 4 Cylinders & Midget Lites.The annual points season for ALL CLASSES will start right out of the gate once again this year, playing host to 6 weekly classes and a tremendous points fund paid out at the end of the season at the annual awards banquet. The season track points begin Saturday, March 29th, with season championship being held one week later this year, Saturday August 30.Weekly classes include 305 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Stock Cars, Mod Lites & 4 Cylinders (IMCA rules non-sanctioned for the 4 cylinders).Saturday, April 19 34 Raceway will host the 6th Annual Slocum 50 with a little different format this year. The 4th Annual Fort Madison Day at Carver Hawkeye Arena is set for Sunday, December 22, 2013.   Iowa takes on Arkansas – Pine Bluff.

The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club has worked with University of Iowa Athletics to secure premium seating for our group.  On Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 AM, tickets go on sale at the Partners offices located at 614 9th Street, Fort Madison.

The first 150 children’s tickets will be available for $5 each (ages 18 and under).  The first 150 adult tickets will be available for $10 each.
