The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has announced the Regional volleyball tournament pairings that begin October 22nd.

In Class 4A the Mt. Pleasant Panthers will host conference foe Keokuk in the first round at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28th.  The winner of that match advances to the semi finals at Solon on Oct. 31st against #2 ranked Solon.  The other teams in the regional are Oskaloosa, Fairfield, and Clear Creek-Amana.

In Class 3A #15 Mediapolis hosts L&M on October 28th and the winner of that match will play at Mediapolis October 28th against the Central Lee vs Davis County match winner.  Other teams in the Regional are:  Camanche, Tipton, West Liberty and Mt. Vernon.

Class 2A has first round play on October 22nd with Columbus Community at Durant, Wapello at Pekin, Danville at West Burlington, Highland at Iowa City Regina.

Class 1A that is loaded with ranked teams here in Southeast Iowa opens play October 22nd in Region 8 with #1 ranked Holy Trinity Catholic hosting Maharishi, the winner of that match plays Harmony at HTC on Oct. 29th. 12th ranked Winfield Mt. Union has a first round bye and will play host to the winner of the Keota vs Sigourney match on the 29th.  Other teams in the Regional are:  Seymour, Moravia, Corydon Wayne, Moulton-Udell, North Mahaska, Melcher-Dallas, Tri-County and Twin Cedars.

Region 7 has #4 ranked New London getting a first round bye, they will play the winner of the October 22nd Waco vs Notre Dame match on Oct. 29th in New London.  Other teams in the regional:  Easton Valley, Prince of Peace, Midland, Lisbon, Central City, Springville, Cedar Valley Christian, Lone tree, Rivermont Collegiate and Calamus-Wheatland.

The State Volleyball Tournament is November 12th thru 15th at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

 

 

The IWC Tigers’ volleyball team split their two matches on Saturday held at Hannibal-LaGrange University.  The Tigers defeated Hannibal-LaGrange in 3 sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-19).  They then fell to conference opponent Principia College in 3 sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-17).  The Tigers are now 8-16 overall and 5-5 in the SLIAC. 

 

Soccer:

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s soccer team lost to Principia College 7-1 on Saturday.  Tyler Hitt scored the Tigers’ lone goal in the match.  The loss drops the Tigers to 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the SLIAC.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team lost to Principia College 13-0 on Saturday.  The IWC women’s soccer team is now 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the SLIAC.

 

The Iowa Wesleyan College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invite on Saturday.  Jacob Ayers was the lone finisher for the men, finishing the 8k course in 30:03 to take 82nd overall out of 234 runners.  Breanna Derynck was the top finisher for the IWC women after having her wisdom teeth pulled on Monday.  Derynck ran the 6k course in 29:05, good for 145th.  Allison Miles also competed for the Tigers, finishing the 6k course in 35:59 for 251st.  There were 271 runners in the women’s race. 

 

Former New London High School golfer Jessica Lerdal of Simpson College finished 11th over the weekend in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic conference women’s golf championship.  Jessica shot a 345, her teams finished 4th.

Alyssa Noble former Wapello High School golfer was 12th in the medalist play, she shot 346.  Her Wartburg Knight team won the title.

Central College freshman cross country runner Isaac Steffensmeier of St. Paul, Iowa finished 29th in the Blugold Invitational cross country meet in Colfax, Wisconsin.  There were 453 runners in the field.

 

 

The Mt. Pleasant football team scored more points than they had in the previous 5 games, but they also gave up more points.  Fairfield rolled over Mt. Pleasant 52-21 in the Trojans homecoming game.  The first two times M.P. had the ball they turned it over and Fairfield turned it into points, and built a 28-0 lead before the Panthers scored to take control of the game early.  The loss puts MPHS at 0-6 and 0-3, Fairfield is 2-4 and 1-3.

Justin Dilks caught a 6 yard touchdown pass, Cole Phillips hauled in a 10 yard scoring strike and Zoom Gwamna ran 47 yards for a touchdown and Gwamna added the PAT’s.

The Trojans started freshman Cam Baumann at quarterback for the first time this season, all he did was throw for 3 touchdowns and run for 3 more.

Fairfield won the freshman game 30-18, Dshondric Foster ran for 2 scores and Brock Wilson passed to Ryan Moutrie for the other.  Dalton Shull, Trey Cosgrove and Zach Ebbling led the tackling.  Tonight M.P. hosts Fairfield in JV action.

This week Washington will come to Mt. Pleasant for district action, Demons rolled over 8th ranked Williamsburg Friday night 35-10.

The Race: Distance and Course

5K Run/walk.  Start and finish on Main Street, downtown Columbus Junction.  The course will be on city streets with a trip through the park.

Trophy to the male and female overall winner.  Medals to ALL finishers
