The Mt. Pleasant Panther volleyball team  took 2nd place in the Southeast Conference in 2012 with a record of 6-2 and was eliminated on the post season tournament trail by conference foe Fairfield.  Luci Wulfekehle stepped down as the head coach and a number of top players graduated.  Now begins the new era of Panther volleyball with Jeff Schulz as the head coach.  He brings with him lots of experience and success as a high school and college volleyball player.  He also spent several seasons as an assistant to Dennis Jaundrey at Mediapolis before being hired as the head coach at MPHS.  57 players are in the Panther volleyball camp in grades 9 thru 12.  M.P. will open the 2013 season Saturday August 31st at the Osceola Tournament.  The  first Southeast Conference match is against Fairfield.

The IWC men’s soccer team has been slated to finish 8th in the St. Louis Athletic Conference (SLIAC).  The men’s team garnered 26 points in the SLIAC Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll, enough to top Eureka College (19 points) and MacMurray College (14 points).

Just as in the SLIAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll, Webster University took the top spot.  The Gorloks received 79 points in the men’s poll, including seven first-place votes.  Webster finished 12-6-2 last season, winning both the regular season and the SLIAC Tournament titles.

The Tigers, who finished 7-10 last season, look to make their mark in their first year in the SLIAC.  The men’s team is familiar with the SLIAC teams, as they played seven games against SLIAC members last year, recording a 3-4 record.

IWC is led by Head Coach Brocklon Chatman, who is in his third year at the helm of the men’s program.  The Tigers will look for leadership from returning defender Tyler Hitt (So.-Rockford, IL).  Newcomer Bo Vitale (Fr.-Mt. Pleasant, IA) looks to contribute right away after being named Southeast Iowa Player of the Year last year while in high school.
