Ever wondered why your kids lose interest over the newly purchased books so soon? A book that you deemed would be right for your little one- a book that had the right amount of illustrations and characters- will be tossed away in the corner of your child’s room. The reason is not about the number of books they have   but it is about getting them the Right ones. Kids Atheneum- an initiative started by Mompreneur Prajkta Malvankar Kulkarni hits the bull’s eye.

What is Kidz Atheneum?

Atheneum is a term often referring to libraries. Kidz Atheneum is an online rental library exclusive for kids. It is India’s First Kids’ Library that houses Phonics books of various Reading Levels for children. Phonics- the relationship between the specific written letter and its sound is an important concept for teaching words to children. Prajkta realized the lack of importance given to phonics  and structured reading levels with the books available currently. As a concerned mother who wanted nothing but the best for her two daughters- she came up with Kidz Atheneum. Having lived in UK for more than 8 years- she was able to understand the concept of Levelled Reading Program- wherein reading schemes are developed with books of different levels of difficulty. Some of the popular reading schemes used the world over are Oxford Reading Tree, Rigby Star, Usborne, Ladybird, etc.

Once the member decides to order a new book and return the old book, the delivery personnel facilitates the same on a day of your convenience.

What we love:

The concept of structured reading levels and books suitable to the child’s age is a welcome move. Different categories of books such as Baby books (0-6 months), Infant Books (6months-2years), Toddler Books (2-3 years), Nursery Books (3-4 years), Phonics Books (4-7 years), Advanced Phonics Books (7-9 years) are available.

Books are imported from UK and each of the books are personally selected by Prajakta.

In addition to the books, parents are also given an access to a Reading Guidance Blog- which helps parents to motivate their young readers.

What we are waiting for:

A concept that is novel and unique as this, Kidz Atheneum at present is restricted to Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai. We can’t wait for the concept and idea to spread wings to other cities in India. Also, the membership plans are slightly pricey for parents who raise avid readers.
