When a classic kids’ toy is perfectly captured in a mobile game, magic happens. Alberto Iglesias is the magician bringing these classic educational experiences to kids. He shares how his company, Edujoy, creates winning games kids love to learn from.

Give us the elevator pitch for Edujoy ! What does your company do?

Edujoy is a company focused on educational games. Our main goal is to create apps and games kids can enjoy while they learn.

What was your inspiration for starting the company?

I was looking for games for my sons and I didn’t find the kind of products I wanted. Finally, I decided to create my own games. The games I wanted.

When and what was the big breakthrough for Edujoy? How did you know it was on?

It was a natural process. We create some games and from the beginning the reviews were very good so we decided to continue on that path. We didn’t think a lot about ASO and this kind of marketing stuff, we were only focused on the product. Creating  good games was the key to generate the first thousands of downloads.

What are a few of your favorite Edujoy games?

We like simple games. The more simple, the more we like them. Some of our favorite games are Baby Phone, Baby Puzzles and Educational Games for kids and through our feedback and downloads from customers,  we are very happy to see that millions of parents and kids love them too.

What should a developer keep in mind when creating a game for kids?

It sounds obvious but I would recommend focussing on kids.  When you start building an app forget about the technology, forget the third party SDKs, forget monetization. The focus should be on the product and users’ needs and interests.

What are the biggest trends in the kids’ app space?

It depends on the age, especially for games related to education. There are different trends that kids’ games have in common nowadays and all of them are related to parental control and participation. In-app purchases become safer with smart payment verification and today more game developers create apps to encourage parents to play with their children through recording music, drawing or learning numbers.

How did you get into technology?

I studied engineering so I have always had interest on technology.

How many employees work for you?

I choose a different team for every project adjusting it to its particularly necessities. I prefer to collaborate with freelancers for specific projects; art, sounds, code, translations, marketing, publicity, etc. I try to have a flexible structure for Edujoy. This sector is changing every day and we need to move fast. In my opinion it’s better to work with collaborators. This way if I see an opportunity today, we can be working on it tomorrow.

What is the next big thing for Edujoy?

In my opinion there is still a big gap between content created for mobile and the real educational problems our kids have, specially in the case of kids with learning problems. Edujoy wants to help on that.
