One of the reasons why I love summer is the the Greenville County Library’s Summer Reading Program! While I think most families in Greenville know at least a little bit about this promotion, in my experience many parents I talk to don’t realize how much the Greenville Library’s summer reading program offers. Today’s guest post from the youth services department at the library will give you the inside scoop on what this summer’s reading program offers in addition to a full event list of the special programs offered for participating children.

I’m personally very excited about Eric Litwin returning (author of the best-selling Pete the Cat books). My family attended his performance at the Greenville Main Library a couple years ago and the kids loved it. I’ve regretted not purchasing a signed copy of a book ever since then, so you can count on seeing me in line this time around.

Three cheers for our librarians and the Friends of the Library for making reading fun for our kids and providing such a wonderful line-up of events for the whole family.

guest post by the Youth Services Department at the Greenville County Library

The school year is almost over and Summer Reading is about to begin. This summer, the library system invites everyone from babies to adults to Explore Your World with great stories, programs, reading challenges and of course, the chance to earn great prizes.

Summer Reading begins Friday, May 30. Register yourself and your children at your favorite library location. And we have Rock-a-bye Reading for babies, too. Engage your babies with early literacy activities and earn a board book.

Join us for the Summer Reading Kickoff Festival at the Main Library in downtown Greenville from 4:00p-6:00p. When you arrive at the Festival, you can register for Summer Reading (if you haven’t already), and join in the fun with sidewalk chalk, face painting and a children’s book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Then, come inside and enjoy an evening with your family when the Greenville Symphony Orchestra joins us to present a Lollipops Concert for all ages from 4:30-5:00p.

Summer Reading continues until Saturday, July 26 which is the last day to collect prizes.

Please visit our website at www.greenvillelibrary.org and go to our Summer Reading section.
