The RAK Half Marathon hosted a deep field of elite women on Friday in Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, in near-perfect weather conditions. The result was a world-record-setting performance by Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir, 23, who ran 1:05:06, three seconds faster than the previous record set two years ago by Florence Kiplagat. Jepchirchir collapsed at the finish line after averaging 4:57 per mile pace . She battled with fellow Kenyan Mary Keitany , 35, who also set a personal best of 1:05:13, which is now the third-fastest time in the world. En route, Jepchirchir also set the fastest-ever mixed race 20K record of 1:01:40. Joyciline Jepkosgei, 23, made it a Kenyan sweep, taking third place in 1:06:08, and lowering her personal record by an astounding three minutes.
