Submarine Entertainment and ByStorm Film are currently working on an authorized documentary about The Notorious B.I.G. The companies made the announcement today at the Berlin Film Festival. Emmett and Brendan Malloy will direct the film and they are working with Voletta Wallace the late rapper’s mother.

Wallace made a statement regarding the project:

“It brings so much joy to my heart that my son Christopher’s music has made such an impact on the music community and his stories have positively inspired so many young men and women over the years, and still influencing the youth all over the world today.”

The Notorious B.I.G. was shot and killed in an unsolved murder in 1997. His debut album, Ready To Die, restored East Coast hip-hop to its reigning glory at a time when Dr. Dre took over the world of popular music with his first solo project, The Chronic.

There was no timeline announced for the completion of the film. Submarine was previously involved with 20 Feet From Stardom, Searching For Sugarman and  Miss Sharon Jones!
