It’s Showtime launches ToMiho Realiserye as an added segment

#ToMiho is seen by many as the show’s answer to Eat Bulaga’s phenomenal #AlDub

Both love teams allegedly share some common characteristics

The recent launching of “ToMiho: A Love Realiserye” on It’s Showtime (aired on ABS-CBN) was touted by many as the answer to the phenomenal #AlDub love team of the longest-running Philippine television noontime show “Eat Bulaga”.

Focusing on the ongoing love story between “Pinoy Big Brother 737” grand winner Miho Nishida and first runner-up Tommy Esguerra, the title of the segment alone is already seen by many as a direct challenge to the “Kalyeserye” segment of “Eat Bulaga,” an article written by Edwin P. Sallan which was published on Interaksyon stated.

Eat Bulaga’s “Kalyeserye” gave birth to #AlDub which is the extremely popular love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Yaya Dub that carved a niche on television and social media history last October 24 with its “Tamang Panahon” TV special by filling the 55,000-seater Philippine Arena and generated over 41 million tweets.

Earlier reports stressed that the popularity of #AlDub began to widen the ratings gap between “Eat Bulaga” and “It’s Showtime” as early as July this year.

That time, It’s Showtime attempted to counter the popular segment with “The Funny One,” a segment that featured budding stand-up comedians leading to the emergence of grand winner Ryan Rems Sarita, known for his catch phrase, “Rock and roll to the world.” As a result of his winning, Sarita ended up as a regular mainstay on “It’s Showtime.”

Unfortunately, Sarita’s addition did not suffice the needed catching up for the show against its greatest rival “Eat Bulaga”, which by the month of August became a trending topic on Twitter every day with #AlDub related hash tags.

An attempt to go neck and neck was done by “It’s Showtime” after it stumbled upon YouTube sensation Angelica Jane Yap, a recently brokenhearted girl who guested on the show’s “Madam Bertud” personal advice segment of host Vice Ganda.

Yap was a hit with the show’s fans and shortly thereafter, a reality dating game portion called “Nasaan Ka, Mr. Pastillas” was created to highlight the young lady’s search for a new boyfriend.

Along with this, the segment drew controversy as the show itself was accused of “exploitation of women” and “pimping” Yap by the Gabriela Women’s Party, prompting the Movie Television Review and Classification Board to summon the show’s representatives.

Comparisons between the two main noontime instant celebrities–Yaya Dub and Pastillas Girl– started to crop up waging on the tagline “wholesome image of Yaya Dub against the viral videos of Yap showing her foul-mouthed rants against her ex-boyfriend.”

When the “Nasaan Ka, Mr. Pastillas” segment finally ended last October 17, Yap, unlike Sarita, was not brought back as a regular talent of “It’s Showtime.”

Recently, a sound idea for “It’s Showtime” to continue the blossoming romance of Miho and Tommy, that started on “PBB 737” and ultimately led to their Top 2 finish, as the two have structured a solid fanbase on social media over the course of the reality show’s run.

For some people, PBB’s big winner Miho shares common things with Maine Mendoza.

Raised almost single-handedly by her mother in Japan, Miho can’t speak and understand English while her Tagalog vocabulary is limited so like Yaya Dub, she does not really talk that much.

Miho’s inability to express herself well became her early weakness seen by other housemates which resulted to her early nomination to be ousted. But her relatively quiet and often clueless demeanor is what endeared her to “PBB” viewers leaving her more loved by hordes of fanatics.

Based on her votes on the grand finals of the show, Miho now holds the highest winning percentage of any “PBB” grand winner to date, which shows her high approval rating among Philippine television audiences.

Miho, is a 22-year-old single mother, who worked as a guest relations staff in Japan.

Tommy, on the other hand, shares some similarities with Alden as both are extremely good-looking and equally charming.

The former is a 21 year-old Filipino-German model, who was born and raised in Long Beach, California, who is also known for his chivalrous and courteous ways just like Alden.

The PBB house serves as the setting of “ToMiho: A Love Realiserye” segment where Miho, together with her mother Mercedes and five year-old daughter Aimi, are currently staying as the house that Miho won as the show’s grand winner, is still under construction.

Whatever may be the case, the Filipino audience will definitely serve as the judge whether to go for the Kalyeserye or the Realiserye which share one common goal of giving their best shot to provide entertainment for the Filipinos and the rest of the globe, as well.
