LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas vows to transform the Philippines into a ‘First World’ country if elected president

He hinted that voters should not opt for the wrong leader if they want genuine progress to happen

Roxas disclosed that with PNoy’s administration, the country has geared up

Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas vowed to “drive” the Philippines to become a “First World” country if he would be chosen to succeed President Benigno Aquino III.

The administration candidate spoke before thousands of Naga City residents as the Liberal Party-led “Daang Matuwid” coalition held another proclamation rally in the home province of its vice presidential bet Leni Robredo; an article published by Philippine Daily Inquirer stated.

As he vowed for genuine transformation, Roxas warned Nagueños  that if they vote for the wrong President, the corrupt leader, subtly referring to Vice President Jejomar Binay, the country will not “reach its destination.”

In his speech, he likened the governance to driving a car; hitting corrupt presidents as those preventing the country from moving toward development.

[“If we recall before 1986, before 2010, no matter how much we press on the acceleration pedal, our car won’t move. We keep on putting gasoline in full tank and we thought by doing this, our car would move. No matter what we do, nothing happens. Why? Because they steal our money. They steal the gasoline. This is why our country can’t move forward.”]

Having stated this, Roxas said it was only in 2010 when the car was able to accelerate up to the fourth gear (the time when the Filipinos elected President Aquino.)

As compared to the previous administration, Roxas stressed that the country has gone far. This, he said, is due to several programs and projects to include the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), PhilHealth coverage for more than 90 million Filipinos, and the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) or the participatory budgeting process in the grassroots.

With what the country has achieved, the presidential candidate said there is a need for continuity of purpose as he further noted that the ‘Daang Matuwid’ should be retained.

Roxas and Robredo continued their campaign kickoff in the home province of the latter in Camarines Sur on February 12 with President Aquino as their guest.

Before Iriga City, the administration candidates visited the hometown of Roxas in Capiz province for the presidential candidate’s sendoff.
