An interview with senatorial candidate Alma Moreno goes viral
Alma received negative comments from people online
Well-known reporter Karen Davila interviewed the actress-politician via Headstart
Actress-turned-politician Alma Moreno was interviewed by respected journalist Karen Davila on ANC’s Headstart a few days ago, to give her a chance to share her plans should she win the senate seat that she is seeking. However, after the video of the interview was uploaded on You Tube, her responses to Davila’s questions seem to have earned more criticisms than admiration.
In an article written by Koji Arsua of When in Manila, it was disclosed that the video of the interview has been making rounds in social media for its “awkwardness.”
At first, Moreno was just talking about how she came up with a decision to run for senator. She shared why she decided to run, her qualifications, and the challenges of being a political aspirant as a former actress.
But as the interview runs, the talk turns ‘awkward’ after Davila asked Moreno about her advocacy.
“Kailangan pa bang sagutin (Do I need to answer that)?” Moreno said.
“Of course. You’re running for the Senate,” Davila replied.
Here is a part of the interview:
Davila: If you won a Senate seat, what would be your advocacy in the Senate?
Moreno: More on sa kababaihan (women).
Davila: Like what?
Moreno: Boses ng kababaihan (the voice of women)… Magna Carta of Women…
Davila: But then the law exists already.
Moreno: Pero may mga bagay na di na-implement (There are things that have not yet been implemented).
Davila: Like what? I want to hear it.
Moreno: Teka muna (hold on).

Meanwhile, a Facebook page, Senyora Santibañez, shared a screenshot of a Facebook user’s post which enumerates Moreno’s answers during the interview.
Senyora Santibañez captioned the screenshot with:
“Ewan ko sa ‘yo Alma Moreno. Sayaw ka na lang ng Micronutrient Deficiency baka matuwa pa ako sa ‘yo (I don’t know what’s wrong with you, Alma Moreno. Why don’t you just do the Micronutrient Deficiency dance?).”
A number of Facebook users expressed negative reaction over Moreno’s answers to Davila.
K. L. said: “Salamat kay Senyora Santibañez makakapili tayo kung sino ang iboboto natin sa darating na halalan. At isa na dun si Alma Moreno, na hinding hindi ko iboboto (Thanks to Senyora Santibañez, we can now decide who to vote this election. And Alma Moreno is one of those who will never ever have my vote).”
While A. M. said Moreno’s answers “entertained” her. “Na-entertain ako, in fairness. Hindi pala sya nadeclare na nuisance (I was entertained by her answers, in fairness. So she was not declared a nuisance)?” she wrote.
On the other hand, A. S. urged Facebook users, ironically, to change their profile pictures.
“Lahat tayo magpalit ng profile pic na may bandila ng Pilipinas sabay caption #PrayForPH
(Let us all change our profile picture with something that has a Philippine flag. Then caption it with: #PrayForPH).”
On the Youtube comments, more have expressed a deeper analysis on the senatorial aspirant; like one who goes by the username Joy C. which goes: “The question is: Are you willing to give your precious vote to Alma Moreno? Di naman yan tungkol sa bihasang mag-english, allowed naman magtagalog sa Senate [It’s not about fluency in English, as Tagalog is allowed in the Senate] but being a senator requires a certain degree of intelligence. Di naman kailangan alam ang buong batas pero yung mga popular bills na lang na tinatanong during the interview kahit basic knowledge wala siyang alam. [It’s not necessary to know all the laws, but it seems she’s not really that familiar even with the popular bills alone which were tackled in the interview; basic knowledge at least.] Di lang sapat ang “Desire to Serve”. Kailangan meron din “Capability”, otherwise ‘di magiging effective.” [Having the “Desire to Serve” is not enough. There’s got to be “Capability”, otherwise she won’t be effective.”
