SunFest, Florida’s largest music, art and waterfront festival announces national acts scheduled to headline the 31st annual event being held May 1-5, along the beautiful, scenic Flagler Drive in downtown West Palm Beach. Train, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring, Ed Sheeran, Life In Color, The Black Crowes, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Slightly Stoopid, Big Sean, Gavin DeGraw, Phillip Phillips, Boz Scaggs, Cheap Trick, Barenaked Ladies, Jimmy Cliff, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Dickey Betts & Great Southern, The Airborne Toxic Event, Reel Big Fish, Less than Jake, Yellowcard, Molly Hatchet, Gary Clark Jr., The Chevin, Tribal Seeds, The Lone Bellow are among the national headliners scheduled to perform.

90’s alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins are performing Wednesday evening, May 1 on the Bank of America Stage. The group formed in 1988 and had a strong influence on the 90’s generation. Their first album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness won them success by being a certified 9x platinum record. The Smashing Pumpkins hits include, “1979,” “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and “Tonight, Tonight.” They released Oceania in June 2012 and have sold over 102,000 copies in the U.S.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros will perform on Wednesday evening, May 1 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. This indie-folk band formed in 2007 with the help of lead singer Alex Ebert, who is also the vocalist of the power-pop group Ima Robot. The free-spirited artists released their second full-length album Here in May 2012. The album was ranked in the Top 10 on Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2012 list and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

Train will perform Thursday evening, May 2 on the Bank of America Stage. Originating in San Francisco, California Train is a double Grammy Award winning rock band from their multiplatinum single “Drops of Jupiter” in 2002. Train returned to the charts in 2010 after releasing “Hey Soul Sister.” The band released their sixth studio album California 37, with “Drive By” and “Bruises” featuring Ashley Monroe. Three of Train’s albums have landed at the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and have sold over 4 million albums in the U.S.

American rapper Big Sean will be performing Thursday evening, May 2 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. Big Sean began his career in 2007 when Kayne West signed him with GOOD Music. From his first album Finally Famous, Sean had three hit singles; “My Last”, “Marvin & Chardonnay” and “Dance (A$ $ ).” He is expected to release his second studio album, Hall of Fame in June 2013.

Yellowcard will perform Friday evening, May 3 on the Bank of America Stage. Yellowcard is an American pop punk/alternative rock band from Jacksonville, Florida now based in Los Angeles. Their music features the use of a violin which is unusual for the genre. They may be best-known for “Ocean Avenue”, which peaked at No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. Yellowcard released a highly anticipated new album in March of last year titled “When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes,” after the band’s four year hiatus. The most well known single from this album is “Sing for Me.” Their latest album, Southern Air, was released in August 2012.

The Offspring will perform Friday evening, May 3 on the Bank of America Stage. This punk rock band originated in Orange County, California in 1984, and has sold over 40 million records worldwide. The Offspring is popular for their famous songs, “Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)” and “Why Don’t You Get a Job?” Their latest studio album, Days Go By, was released in June 2012, and debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200.

Jazzy, funky, and hip Gary Clark Jr. will be performing Friday evening, May 3 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. Originating out of Austin, Texas, Clark released his most recent album in October 2012, Blak & Blu, with songs, “Ain’t Messin’ Around” and “Glitter Ain’t Gold (Jumpin’ For Nothin’).” Clark is featured in a song with the popular artist Alicia Keys in the hit “Fire We Make.”

Rock band The Black Crowes are performing Friday evening May 3 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. This all American rock band began in 1989, releasing their first album “Shake Your Money Maker.” To date they have sold more than 4 million copies around the world. The Black Crowes experienced huge success in the 90’s and all throughout the new millennium. The band is well known for their popular songs “She Talks to Angels,””Hard to Handle,” and “Thorn in My Pride.”

English star Ed Sheeran will be performing Friday evening, May 3 on the FPL Stage. This 22-year-old has made an impression in the U.S. This year he was nominated for the Song of the Year at the Grammys with his single “The A Team.” He has received multiple awards in Britain as well as Australia. In 2012, Sheeran’s first album + peaked at No. 5 on the US Billboard 200.

Slightly Stoopid is performing Saturday afternoon, May 4 on the Bank of America Stage. Originating from Ocean Beach, California the band describes themselves as “a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk.” Slightly Stoopid has been around for more than a decade and have seven albums. “Top of the World” was released August 2012 and landed the Billboard 200 at No. 13.

American indie rock band The Airborne Toxic Event will be performing Saturday afternoon, May 4 on the FPL Stage. The band originated in Los Angeles, California in 2006. Their second album was released April 2011 and included the song “Changing,” which reached No. 4 on the Alternative Song charts. The band will be releasing their third album Such Hot Blood this April.

Molly Hatchet will perform Saturday afternoon, May 4 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. The band originated in Jacksonville, Florida in 1975 and is best known for the album, Flirtin’ With Disaster which was a three-time multi-platinum record. The band’s latest album, Justice is their twelfth studio album, released in 2010.

Dickey Betts, founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, will be performing with his band Great Southern on Saturday afternoon, May 4 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. Born and raised in our very own West Palm Beach, Florida Dickey Betts has been in the music industry since 1960. Betts’ first solo album Highway Call had two hit singles “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and “Blue Sky.” In 2011, Betts was recognized at No. 61 in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Life in Color “World’s Largest Paint Party” (EDM) will be hosted at SunFest Saturday evening, May 4 on the Bank of America Stage. Life in Color originated on a college campus in Florida and has blown up around the world. This lifetime experience showcases well known DJ’s that play high-energy music, dancing, art, and paint all in one night.

Season 11 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips will perform Saturday evening, May 4 on the FPL Stage. Philips is known for his rich, raspy voice and magnificent guitar skills. “Home” released May 2012 hit triple platinum and was the highest debut on the Billboard Digital songs chart with 278,000 downloads sold in the first week. Phillips debut album The World From the Side of the Moon sold 169,000 copies in its first week of release.

The all American rock band Cheap Trick will perform Saturday evening, May 4 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. This band made their mark with countless classics including, “I Want You to Want Me,” and “Surrender.” Cheap Trick has more than 5,000 performances under their belt and 40 gold and platinum record awards.

Alternative rock band Barenaked Ladies will be performing Sunday afternoon, May 5 on the Bank of America Stage. This funky Canadian band began in 1988 and has received multiple Canadian and American awards throughout the years. They are best known for their single, “One Week” released in 1998 which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and, stayed there for a week. The Barenaked Ladies have sold over 15 million records including albums and singles.

Jimmy Cliff will perform Sunday afternoon, May 5 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. Cliff is known around the world for his contemporary reggae soul and R&B music. Cliff has produced several international hits “Wonderful World, Beautiful People,” and “Vietnam.” In 2010 Cliff was one of the five artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Ska punk rock band Less than Jake will perform Sunday afternoon, May 5 on the FPL Stage. Less than Jake originated in 1992 in our very own backyard Gainesville, Florida. The band’s fifth album Anthem was their most successful to date, featuring the singles, “She’s Gonna Break Soon” and “The Science of Selling Yourself Short.” The band released their eighth studio album, Greetings And Salutations, in October 2012.

Ska Punk band Reel Big Fish will be performing Sunday afternoon, May 5 on the FPL Stage. The band originated from Huntington Beach, California back in 1991. Reel Big fish is known for their popular single “Sell Out” released in 1997. In July 2012 the band released their 7th album Candy Coated Fury, which debuted at No. 80 on the Billboard 200.

Mac Miller will perform Sunday evening, May 5 on the Bank of America Stage. The 21 year-old Pittsburgh star has been on the rise since the release of his album Blue Slide Park in late 2011. The album sold 145,000 copies in stores the first week, and became the first independent debut to hit No. 1 on the Billboard albums since 1995. Miller is currently working on the release of his upcoming sophomore album Watching Movies with the Sound off.

Kendrick Lamar will perform Sunday evening, May 5 on the Bank of America Stage. Three years after Lamar’s first charted single “Overly Dedicated” he experienced an even bigger breakthrough with the single “Swimming Pools (Drank).” “Poetic Justice,” featuring Drake landed No. 18 on the Billboard List, as well as R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs at No. 5 with 36,000 downloads in the first week.

American singer, song writer, and guitarist Boz Scaggs is performing Sunday evening, May 5 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. Boz Scaggs is known for singing with the Steve Miller Band as well as producing several Top 20 solo hits in the U.S. His album, Silk Degrees was debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 115 weeks! The album includes popular songs, “Lowdown,” “Lido Shuffle,” and “What Can I Say.”

Gavin DeGraw will be performing Sunday evening, May 5 on the FPL Stage. DeGraw gained popularity with his hit single “I Don’t Want to Be,” which sold over a million copies and earned platinum certification. DeGraw’s fourth and most recent album, Sweeter was released September 2011 and landed No. 8 on the Billboard 200, selling 34,000 copies in its first week.

New Music Discoveries

Notable rising acts performing for attendees to discover and enjoy include: AAN, The Chevin, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Tribal Seeds, The Lone Bellow, Kaleigh Baker & the Nems and Yellowcard.

AAN will be performing Wednesday evening, May 1 on the Bank Of America Stage AAN is an experimental pop band from Portland, Oregon mixing heavily textured guitars with rich vocal harmonies. The band has been active since 2007, self-releasing several CD-Rs and garnering a reputation throughout the Northwest as a progressive force in the independent scene.

Their forthcoming LP “Amor Ad Nauseum” will be the group’s first proper release. The work will demonstrate a patience and attention to space not found in much of the new cannon of up and coming artists. Aan will continue to tour through the continental US in 2013.

Roadkill Ghost Choir will be performing Wednesday evening, May 1 on the Tire Kingdom Stage. Roadkill Ghost Choir is an indie folk-rock band from DeLand, Florida. While the member’s major influences include Wilco, Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, and Fleetwood Mac, there are also undercurrents of Radiohead and Nirvana, lending the band an impish edge with broad appeal.

In 2012 Roadkill Ghost Choir finished recording their debut E.P. , Quiet Light, with producer Dave Plakon and engineer Mark Mason at North Avenue Studio. It was mastered in Omaha, Nebraska by Doug Van Sloun (Bright Eyes, She and Him).

Tribal Seeds will be performing Saturday afternoon, May 4 on the Bank of America Stage. Tribal Seeds is a reggae band based in San Diego, California. With heavy influence from Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, and Midnite, the group is headed by two brothers, both raised in San Diego playing instruments since early childhood. They have toured throughout the United States as well as Mexico, Aruba, and Guam, and have shared the stage with MGMT, Gregg Allman, Earth Wind & Fire, Matisyahu, The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Stephen Marley, SOJA, Rebelution, and many more. Their latest album, Soundwaves, was released in July 2011 and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Charts.

The Chevin will be performing Saturday afternoon, May 4 on the FPL Stage. The Chevin is an English post-punk revival band, based in Leeds who formed in 2010. The band is composed of four childhood friends, Coyle Girelli (lead vocals and guitars), Mat Steel (guitars and keyboards), Jon Langford (bass guitar) and Mal Taylor (drums.) The band gets their name from The Chevin, a ridge overlooking their home town of Otley, West Yorkshire.

The Chevin has toured Europe supporting Franz Ferdinand, White Lies, The Airborne Toxic Event and The Pigeon Detectives. The band made their US television debut performing their single “Champion” on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2012.

The Lone Bellow will be performing Saturday evening, May 4 on the FPL Stage. The Lone Bellow began as a songwriting project for Zach Williams, whose wife had suffered temporary paralysis following a horseback riding accident. Williams and Brian Elmquist had known each other as college students in Lynchburg, Virginia. Initially known as Zach Williams and the Bellow, the band shortened its name to The Lone Bellow before putting out any official releases. The group signed with Descendant Records, a newly formed sublabel of Sony BMG, and released its self-titled debut in January 2013. USA Today calls them “2013′s breakout folk-rock act, in the vein of The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons or the Civil Wars.”

The regional and local bands include Breeze Davinci, Chris McCarty & The Underground Movement, Community Property, Dharmata, Future Prezidents, Jahguar, Making Faces, Rich Coccaro, Shatterglass, SJ, Stiletto Red, The Curve, The Duppies and UNRB.

The Seminole Casino Coconut Creek will be hosting the Rock-n-Roll Shootout for a chance to win a spot on the 2013 SunFest lineup. In its fourth year the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek Rock-n-Roll Shootout is expanding for the first time online. Fans will get their chance to cast their vote for their favorite bands prior to their live performances.

The four week competition will begin on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. – March 12, 19, 26, and April 2. Each evening six bands will compete for a slot in the Finale. After the bands perform, the weekly winners will be determined by the judges’ votes and the online fan votes to send them on to the final live competition on Saturday, April 13 at 8pm.
