Simba originates from the Disney 1994 film ''{{w|The Lion King}}'', and later appears in the sequels ''{{w|The Lion King II: Simba's Pride}}'' and ''{{W|The Lion King 1½}}''. In the beginning of the film, Simba is presented as the newborn cub of Mufasa, the Pride Lands' ruler, and his wife, Sarabi, by Rafiki to the entire animal kingdom. Simba grows up to be a playful, energetic, and rambunctious child, thrilled to know he will become king like his father in the future. During their trek across the kingdom, Mufasa warns Simba to stay away from the Elephant Graveyard, the territory of the hyenas. In addition, Mufasa lectures Simba on the responsibilities he will have to bear as king before being called away for an emergency. When Simba returns home, his uncle, Scar, tricks him into going to the graveyard in a plot to kill Simba, as Scar was jealous of Simba's status of future king. Wanting to prove himself as a brave lion, he invites his childhood friend, Nala, to accompany him to the graveyard. There, they encounter Scar's hyena henchmen, Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, who were sent to kill them, but were fortunately saved by Mufasa. Mufasa takes Simba home and scolds him for putting himself and Nala in danger, but quickly forgives him. Simba inquires his father if they will always be together, and Mufasa responds that he will be watching Simba from the stars.
