The Tourism Authority of Thailand made a big deal out of the current Thai dictatorship ordering a clean-up on Pattaya Beach.

Supposedly, this clean-up, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, is part of a nation-wide program.  I know. Sorry for not warning you – now – get a tissue and clean the coffee off of your computer screen.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya Jomtien Beach Zoning

See, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is in deep shit. Tourists are still not coming, just like in 2014, and the Discover Thainess 2015 campaign is not targeted at foreigners. Toss in the decline of the Russian ruble, and you have no tourists in Pattaya.

So, the Tourism Authority of Thailand made a big deal of this forced beach clean-up at Pattaya and Jomtien where vendors are only supposed to rent beach chairs and umbrellas on a small percentage of the beach keeping most the beach wide open and supposedly beautiful.

Now, I really don’t know why anyone in their right mind would enter the waters of Pattaya beach. Jomtien, maybe, but Pattaya’s waters are filthy.

Anyhow, the Tourism Authority of Thailand was quick to tell you this:

Bangkok, 15 January 2015 – Thailand’s nationwide beach clean-ups continue into the New Year with Pattaya and Jomtien receiving a new zoning regulation to reduce space for beach chairs and umbrellas and offer larger space for more fun under the sun for holidaymakers.

The first lie is that this is a nationwide beach clean-up.

Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Pattaya Office said, “The new zoning policy is being enforced under the Provincial Regulation with the objective of providing more public space on the beach and improving the experience of travellers. Tourists can choose to relax on wide stretches of empty sand or seek out deckchairs and umbrellas in the designated areas.”

The second lie is that it is being enforced because just three days later we are told – Beach vendors still defy junta’s orders at Pattaya and Jomthien.

Pattaya City officials say vendors are still defying the military junta’s beach clean-up policy as they still operate on restricted open areas on the beach front with more chairs and umbrellas than permitted, and also on Wednesday which is declared a vendor-free day on the beach front.

Wanna bet that the Tourism Authority of Thailand doesn’t update their news article with what is really going on?
