The Tourism Authority of Thailand is in desperation mode to get tourists to return to the Kingdom – they have the TAT UK office and th TAT North America office stealing photos to promote Thailand.

And, apparently, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has brainwashed a Thai Envoy to the Middle East into believing that tourists from the Middle East are flocking to Thailand.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Middle East

This Thai Envoy, Piroon Laismit, is doing the Tourism Authority of Thailand song and dance claiming that Middle Easterners are lining up at the border to visit Thailand.  The truth is far from what Khun Piroon professes.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand should be happy to see that this clueless envoy claims Thailand well prepared to welcome more Qatari tourists.

The Thailand embassy has recorded “a flow of tourists from Qatar” visiting Thailand during the Eid al-Fitr holidays and it expects the same number for the forthcoming Eid al-Adha, ambassador Piroon Laismit told Gulf Times.

The end of the fast holiday was at the end of July and the numbers of foreign tourist arrivals from the Middle East were in some cases a 100%-200% increase over the same period in 2013. But, and its a BIG but, from January to July 2014, the numbers are down – 25% for Kuwait and 39% for Saudi Arabia and 14% for the United Arab Emirates.  Thailand’s Department of Tourism doesn’t list numbers of foreign tourist arrivals from Qatar though.

Citing that the political situation in Thailand “is back on track,” the envoy said they are looking forward to welcome tourists from all over the world.

I guess it is OK for this envoy to refer to a dictatorship as “back on track”.

“In terms of tourism, the country is very safe,” he stressed. “In total, a few thousand tourists from here (Qatar) travelled to Thailand during the Eid holiday.”

Must have been all the ladies in burkhas I saw at Robinson’s buying dainty underthings.

The Thai embassy disclosed that it processed more than 100 visa applications per day before the Eid al-Fitr festival. For the Eid al-Adha, the envoy expects tourists to stay a little shorter compared with the previous holiday.

For how many days?  What was the total?

In 2013, about 39,000 tourists from Qatar visited Thailand. Of this, more than 29,000 were Qataris.

Huh?  What were the other 10,000?

At a roadshow held in Doha in May, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) noted that they saw a huge potential in the Qatari and Kuwaiti markets with a 36% and 15% rise respectively, in the number of visitors. Laismit said the GCC remained an “important market for Thailand”.

Uh, Kuwait is down 25% for the first seven months of 2014.

A TAT report noted that many visitors from the Middle East preferred to stay longer. Those who come from the UAE normally stayed an average of 10 days and spent about $183.10 per day. Visitors from Saudi Arabia stayed for nine days and spent an average of $171.51 while those from Kuwait stayed for 10 days and spent around $166.62 a day.

Bullshit numbers as the Tourism Authority of Thailand has absolutely no way of knowing how much any tourist spends.

About the current situation in Bangkok, Laismit noted that both prime minister and the cabinet have been appointed and have assumed their duties. He said various committees will be established to complete the political reform.

Yes, the Prime Minister is the former General that overthrew the country in a coup.

The Thai embassy is set to hold a number of cultural events in Doha in the coming months. It has invited three chefs from Suan Dusit International Culinary School (known as one of the most popular cooking institutes in Thailand) for the “Thai Food Festival in Qatar” which will be held from September 30 to October 5 at Marriott Marquis Hotel.

When will the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thai Government learn that these do very little for tourism.

A second Thai event will be held on October 31 at the embassy known as the “Loy Kratong Festival,” organised in bazaar-style, almost similar to  the celebration in Thailand.

Except that Loy Krathong is on November 7th this year.

The rest of the article is about flights and how Qataris love to go to Phuket.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is lucky to have this mouthpiece in the Middle East to spread the bullshit on thick.
