HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i football team concludes the regular season Saturday by hosting Massachusetts in the regular season finale on Hawaiian Tel FCU Field at Aloha Stadium. Kick-off is 6:00 p.m.
The Rainbow Warriors (5-7) can still qualify for a bowl berth with a win, granted there are not enough bowl-eligible teams. As of Monday, 64 teams are bowl-eligible for the 80 bowl slots. UH’s last bowl appearance was the 2010 Hawai’i Bowl.
Hawai’i defeated Fresno State, 14-13, last Saturday, which gave the Warriors a 4-4 Mountain West record and runner-up finish in the West Division. Meanwhile, UMass dropped a 51-9 decision to BYU in Provo, Utah, dropping the Minutemen to 2-9 on the season.
Following the game, 21 Rainbow Warrior seniors will be recognized and participate in the traditional “Senior Walk” ceremony.
The match-up is the first between the schools.

Game Notes
A total of 21 seniors will play in their final regular season game Saturday and will be honored following the game during the traditional “Senior Walk” ceremony…A win would give UH a 6-7 regular season record and keep its bowl hopes alive. Hawai’i could receive a bowl invite if there are not enough bowl-eligible teams. Currently 64 teams are bowl-eligible with 16 open spots for the 40 bowl games. A total of 18 teams could become bowl eligible in the final two weeks of the season. Last season, three teams with losing records received bowl invites including San José State…UH has won its last five non-conference home games dating back to the 2014 season. Its last loss was against Oregon State, Sept. 8, 2014…This week’s game is part of a home-and-home series between the schools. The Warriors will travel to Amherst, Mass., Oct. 7, 2017, which will mark the furthest east a UH football team will play a game in its history at more than 5,000 miles…Wideout Marcus Kemp needs seven receiving yards for 1,000 on the season. He would become UH’s first 1,000-yard receiver in the last five years (Royce Pollard, 2011) and would mark the 19th time a UH receiver surpassed the milestone…UH placekicker Rigoberto Sanchez is a perfect 11-for-11 in field goals this season. The school’s single-season record for field goal percentage is .909 (20-of-22) held by Jason Elam in 1989.

UMass fell to 2-9 following a 51-9 loss at BYU last Saturday in a game which the Minutemen led 9-7 at one point in the second quarter. The Cougars scored 44 unanswered and out-scored UMass 37-0 in the second half…The Minutemen are 0-5 on the road this season having lost by an average of 21.2 points with losses to Florida, Old Dominion, South Carolina, Troy and BYU…UMass closes out its season with three straight road games…UMass is averaging 248.9 yards passing per game, which ranks 50th nationally, while its 97.9 rushing average is fourth worst in FBS…Quarterback Andrew Ford has thrown for 2,323 yards (60.6%), 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on the season. Last week against BYU, he threw for 288 yards (27-of-40) and one TD…Marquis Young is the team’s featured back with season totals of 781 yards (4.4 avg.) and three touchdowns…Head coach Mark Whipple is 57-53 in his ninth season with the school and has an overall head coaching record of 129-86.
